Brake Problem?

Alright heres the story,

Driving 20miles today to go out to eat, I merged into a different lane, at about less than 45mph braking to stop at a stop light. As I merge and brake, I hear screetching from the tires lifting from the ground (the ground isnt even) and going back on the pavement. I stopped for about 2 mins at the stop light, and when I go back to accelerate, my wheels begin to roll at 2k RPMs. I thought my transmission was shot before it started to roll. I drive for about 1/2 a mile to stop at another stop light. Same thing happens again. So I get to the destinations shopping center about 500 ft away, and I pull in the parking lot, shut off my car, and some words fly (not good). I start my car back up ot get to the resturant and everything is normal. I took a couple of laps around the shopping center and everything is good. After dinner, I take my car back home, and its running like nothing happened.

My Question:
What exactly happened?... Could my brakes just have been dragging a lot, or could it have been the transmission?

Thanks for reading, and I hope you can give me a solution.

well it wasn't the parking brake, because I pulled that up and released it a couple of times thinking that it was... but it didn't feel like the parking brake.

sticky caliper maybe. your description leaves a lot of questions though.. I'd have to see what you're describing to be able to tell you anything.
