Error code 34-Detonation sensor-where is it?

My Max is running poorly below 2000 RPMs and usually in the morning. It all started when I got the Max back from a power steering pump replacement. I gave it a tune up & the problem persists. I got the error code 34 and it says a dealer needs to repair it.

Nissan wants about $500! Where is the detonation sensor located? I would at least like to see if the mechanic knocked off a wire or fooled with it before I empty out my savings to Nissan. Why is the sensor so difficult to replace anyway? If it is "open" can I "close" it without replacing it? If I drive it for another month with it acting up like this will I harm the engine? It only "hesitates" for about 8 minutes then drives normal the rest of the way to work. If it happens again that day it only lasts for about 5 minutes then drives great.

Please advise, if i have to take it to the shop I'll have to wait a month to save up the dough & either drive it or take the bus!

detonation sensor is the knock sensor - since you have a vg and not a ve i dont think that the knock sensor disease affects you maybe someon can help you out with the location of the knock sensor on the vg. I have a VE. id search for you but its not working for me right now.

The detonation (knock) sensors on the VG are on the same side as the oil filter, but just beneath the exhaust manifold. I know that doesn't give you much to go on, but I hope that helps.

hmm i just started getting this code too, right before i left on a trip. i just got home and havent tried driving my car yet. i was getting EXTREME intermittent power loss at lower RPMs, and trouble leaving lower RPMs at times. On top of that i had intermittent stalling when no throttle was applied and cold idle problems that started before the extreme power loss and wel before the code 34., so im thinking they may be unrelated (but not entirely sure)

heres a short writeup i just foind on replacing it, http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507

hmm wait youve got a VG, i think this is foir VE. oh well, does anyone know how much knock sensors should cost for a VE?

Thanks alot for that link! That just saved me at least $100 if I decide to replace it. I guesse thats the next step. Thats assuming that only the sensor is bad. If the knock sensor is working that means my engine is knocking and replacing it wo'n matter-I must admit I have been running regular gas in it for the past 3 years.
Thanks again for that link!
