I have to let my 89 Maxima warm up before it will go into drive. It shifts fine in the lower gears, but when it starts to shift to 3rd it's like you threw it out of gear. Reverse was working until I let a so call mechanic look at it. Now I have no reverse. I plan on checking the codes this coming weekend. If I end up getting a code 54, would this cause the problem? Any help would be appreciated!

 

Tranny is shot no code would make it throw out a gear or have reverse go out the 3rd gen vgs have horrible trannys i know ive had 3 all had to get tranny jobs might wanna look for a junkyard tranny or a good shop to rebuild.
