Please help! Big car trouble!

I have the VE motor

My car is running horrible! It starts up fine, after I start it up I have a time frame of about one second to accelerate, after that acceleration is almost impossible and it just feels like my gas pedal isnt doing anything! Sometimes if I take my foot off the pedal and press again, my car will JERK bad one time. Either way, it will inevitably stall! I can then start iot again no problem. It will not idle.

I had the fuel pressure checked very recently and was good, all tune up items are new, coils have healthy resistance!

So I can accelerate exactly ONE time per time i start up the car. I can then coast down the road while I'm stalling until i start it up again (i obviously cant drive like this except around tjhe block). When the problem first started I was able to change the performance slightly (to improve it or make it even worse) by playing with the MAF connector. Now that does nothing! But I had a mechanic test MAF and he said it was good!

Because I can accelerate exactly one time, my thought is that it is exhaust related or som giant vacuum leak! As for leaks, the only things i've noticed is that the Ribbed tube may not be connected to the MAF as tight as possible, but I'm having trouble getting it any tighter. Also, theres a hose that is tied to another hose/pipe. The source of the hose comes from the bottom of the engine, and it is OPEN on the other end, not connectd to anything! It is "tied" with a plastic piece to some pipe/hose that leads to the ribbed tube on throttle body. Is it supposed to not be connected to anything? May be a stupid question but I cannot for the life of me figure out where it would go! I will try to bring picture later on. It would have to go someplace nearby since it is short and bound to another hose.

THE DA(shot)RK

Spark plugs?(the nondescript fix-it-all car solution) Did you check gas for sugar, oil for rice or the tail pipe for bananas? Laid off trunk monkeys have been vandalising cars in protest recently. Loose hose sounds very suspect, though I can't imagine what it could be. Does the car spew gasoline from the engine compartment?

Heres an OLD picture of the hose im talking about, its taken from before I had this problem. I can't really tell what it's doing in this picture. I drew a red line on the hose I'm talking about. What's it supposed to do?
thanks for the funny reply. I know it sounds stupid to ask whether a disconnected hose should be connected, but I seriously cant tell what its supposed to do.

tranny breather hose.
It amy still be a vacum leak try using some carb cleaner to spray around the engine and vac hoses, if at some point the idle raises up, then you've found the area of the leak.
or you may just have a fuel pump problem

ooh ok thats what it the hose is, thanks

It didnt seem like it could attach anywhere but I never noticed it before so really wasn't sure.

I'll do the spray test now, only problem is my car will only idle for like a second so I'll probably have to get someone to help me. Makes it so much harder to check stuff under the hood when it wont idle!

Fuel pump... I always assumed that fuel pump gave hard starting and no starting issues rather than driveability issues with problem-free starting. Dont think I'm trying to argue, I'm just trying to learn- is this not the case? I know checking fuel pressure is a good way to check the pump, but got any specific tips on what I should look for and when i should check it?

And should I consider the fuel injectors? Really thats one of the few things I havent recently checked or tested on my car. People I have talked to really dont think that fuel injectors would cause this problem, but I just want to hear what other maxima owners think

Thanks a lot

Most fuel pump issues are driveability not starting.

Well. New EGR valve gasket, an EGR cleaning, and reattaching of the throttle area stuff seems to have cured my problem for now. Thanks man.
