17 " Wheels
#1
I have just ordered a new set of 17" Chrome wheels for my Maxima.. The question that I had is this?? What would be a good tire size to match with 17 " wheels on a 1989 Max, I am looking to fill the wheel well as best a possible but still have a nice looking tire.. any suggestions would be a great help.. Thank you..

Let me know what you think..
The wheels that I ordered are the same style and finish as the ones I have in the pics, but instead of 15" they are 17"

Plus-sizing 101
17" wheel should take a 45 series tire in about a 215 width (depending on the wheel width) ex 215/45-17. For each inch increase in wheel diameter the sidewall aspect ratio number decreases a factor of 10. Stock diameter was 15" with a 65 series sidewall becomes a 17" 45 series sidewall. 16" would be a 55 series as I have. Tire Rack's web site is a good source of info for this kind of stuff. Have fun!

And furthermore...
You mentioned filling the wheel wells. That's where lowering springs come in. Not to be done with the wheels and tires. When changing wheel and tire size you need to keep the overall tire height as close (within 1/2") to stock height as possible. Any more than that results in gearing and speedometer problems. Just relized I forgot to address that earlier.

i have...
I have got 17's on my 90se, and I have 245/45''s they seem to fit in there perfectly, I am waitn for some good weather so i can put those rims on and then i will put up some pics.... just dont go any larger than a 45 because then you will offset the speedo, mine already is offset by 2mph at 60 which isnt a big deal...

Upsizing 102
Keep in mind that the sidewall number (ex 45) is a percentage of the section width of the tire. Not the tread width. A 45 isn't the same height on a 215 wide tire as it is on a 245 wide tire. A 215/45 sidewall is 96.75mm. A 245/45 sidewall is 110.25mm. If you bump up to a 245 wide tire you're better off with a 40 sidewall, which is 98mm high. Isn't this fun?
