did 91 se's have keyless entry?

did 91 se's have keyless entry?

the guy who I bought it from said that it might but he wasn't sure till he got the rest of the keys and checked to see if it has a keyless entry fob.

keyless entry on 3rd gens are keypads under the door handles (or possibly keyfobs on '94 models), and these were only available on gxes

no 3rd gens had Key fobs.. that's a late 4th gen thing IIRC.

only the GXEs had the keypads on the doors.
(I certainly wish they had them on the SEs too.. I would have saved myself $100 in locksmith fees in the first month I owned the car and wasn't used to NOT having the door keypad! )

Matt, IIRC, someone got on here (maximamike?) and posted some scans of what his dad had put together about the 3rd gen when he had worked at nissan, and it mentioned something about "keyless entry keyfobs 94-??"

Depending on what happens to my car, if I get another max (hopefully VE 5spd) I'm gonna work on putting a keypad in the driver door any se guys know if the wiring is already there?

dmad - the wiring is definitely not there and it'd take a lot of extra wiring for that. Much easier to just add remote keyless entry instead

I've added a wire onto my car so that I can access it from outside the car and just ground it to unlock the car in case I get locked out. I'm not gonna tell you where I put it though

wait, can you explain that? you have a wire connected to some part of the locking system, and when its grounded (to what, cement? your wheel) it unlocks?

and is it possible to steal the harnesses from a gxe and swap them with the se ones, would that work?

most cars use a negative ground system where the chassis of the car is grounded. So I take the cap off the hidden wire, touch it to bare metal and it'll unlock the door

yes, it's possible to steal the harness from a GXE. All you'd need to do is remove the doors, everything inside them, take out the old harness, put in new one, put everything back in place, take out your whole dash (all panels and even the big main dash part), probably have to take out lots of other stuff in the way, add the keyless entry wiring from the rest of the wiring harnesses in there, put everything back together

It'd probably only be 20-30 hours of labor or so.

I'd say the ACC was a little harder, but you're still in for a ton of work. For $40, you can get a good quality REMOTE keyless entry system from ebay.

go for it David, just get the FSM and go to town, just dont expect me to tell you exactly what you need to do

Will do, I'll get an FSM, but where do I start? I know it's not going to be way easy, but I'm not rewiring, just swapping harnesses, so I'm not gonna have to do as much as I could be doing...and I'm only gonna do it on the driver door, saving some time, I never use my passenger side door one

I know I'm gonna need the keypad, will I need the alarm brain, or do SEs have alarm brains with reset codes...sounds a little less complicated as far as install than the ACC, mostly swapping harnesses and such. Plus the interior removal won't be that big of a deal, especially if I'm doing an interior swap at the same time...

I got a 1989 maxima se, and my security light keeps blinking. I don't have a factory or other security system, what could cause this. I know when me and my cousin wired the street glow lights i seen a securiy box, but dont know anything bout it. I just got the car bout 1-2 weeks ago.

Yes you do have a factory "alarm"
it's called a passive alarm, it arms when you lock the doors and disarms when you unlock them.

Actually, you do have a factory security system. All 3rd gens came with them. It should flash when one of the "zones" is open - one of the doors, hood or trunk. If it doesnt' stop flashing, one of those sensors is probably bad. It should arm after you lock and close the doors - security light will stay on for 30 seconds and then go out meaning it's armed. You disarm it by turning the key in the door lock.


Matt - I've added a better one since the one I told you about. I was excited about it so I told Michael so he might steal my car soon. But that other one is still there so you can still steal my car too. Tell Dmad and take the $5. I'll move it and everyone will be happy

I dont think it's "passive". Generally that means the system will arm after x amount of inactivity ie you accidentally unlock the doors but dont open them; one minute later it will rearm the alarm and lock the doors.

I learned passive to be any alarm that doesn't require any extra action on your part.

David - digital touch entry and alarm are completely different units. Not sure what you mean by reset codes unless you're talking about the touchpad stuff which is N/A for SEs.
I dont know if you've picked up on it yet or not, but I think swapping the touchpad system from a GXE into an SE would be way more work than it's worth. For the amount of time and money you will likely spend, you could easily get a much better system, probably cheaper, and it would also work by remote.

internetguy - I've just picked up the passive stuff from installing aftermarket alarms where they have the option of using the passive feature as I described before. I think your definition is probably true too and it makes sense.
