Heat Question

I Have A Pace Setter Short Shifter. In Order For The Shifter To Clear Properly I Took My Heat Shield Off (the One Over The Cat). I Also Hav A High Flow Cat And A Warp Speed Y Pipe. Now After About 30 Min. Of Driving A Large Amount Of Heat Is Entering My Cabin, From The Shifter Spot But It Seems As If Its Entering From Somewhere Else To Im Not Sure. But The Shifter Becomes Harder And Harder To Shift The Hotter The Cabin Gets. But As Soon As I Turn On The Ac The Shifter Starts To Get More Loose. I Was Wondering If Heat Wrapping My Y Pipe And Cat Would Solve This Prob. Is Heat Wrapping My Cat A Bad Idea? Does Anyone Have A Solution To The Pacesetter Shorty Clearing The Heat Sheild? Thanks

lets see, you take off your heatshield, and now its hot...why would you have to take off the shield for it to fit?

Modify your heat sheild in a way that you can still mount it AND it clears the shifter. I had to do this with my short-shifter too.

how did you modify it? i saw write ups saying poke a whole in it, i figures this would still let heat through. (DMad8724 ) on a short shifter the part under the ball is longer than a regular shifter. the heat shield is directly below the shifter. hence the need to remove it for the shorty to fit.

My pacesetter is set to about 1/2 way and I didn't need to modify my heat shield. The best way to modify is just to take a hammer and make a small dent right where the ball will sit.

I took the heat sheild off, took note of where the shifter was obviously coming in contact with the sheild, then took my grinder and cut (front to back) beside those marks, then made one cut (side to side) through the middle where the shifter was contacting the sheild. This allowed me to bend the 2 resulting sections down. Then I made a filler panel for the center and both sides and welded them in. No heat gets through and I have plenty of clearance now - AND it's still about 3/4" off the top of the CAT.
