1994 maxima EGR sensor

Hey guys

I haven't been looking around for awhile because I have been busy on NICO looking for info on mY 1990 Q45.

But my friend has a 1994 maxima. His CEL is on and when he had the codes read it came up EGR sensor. The mechanic who installed his motor said he had the egr sensor and forgot to plug it in. Needless to say that my friend doesn't want to deal with this guy again. He has the sensor and does not know exactly where to plug it in.

Just to try to explain what it is he has it is a wire with a probe looking end with a threaded end.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the EGR temperature sensor. I gotta assume he has a Cali spec car then. I am not sure where to plug it in because: A. I don't know which engine he has (GXEs have VG, SEs have VE), and also I have a Fed Spec car so I don't have an EGR temp sensor anyway. Maybe someone with a Cali spec car can chime in.

He has a VG motor and that does make sense.

Is it possible that if the original motor in the car was a cali spec but the new one is not that would cause the check engine light. Considering the only thing changed was the motor not the ecu or anything else. He says he has felt all around the egr and cannot even find a spot where the sensor would plug into.
