Skyline in the US markets!?
I went to our schools career fair today and guess who was there, Nissan engineers! Anyway, I'm getting my Logistics degree and looking for a job in the automotive manufacturing industry, so I naturally went and talked to the people. Unfortunately they don't have an internship program right now "b/c of the financial situation Nissan is in," but they'll have one again soon.
While I talk to the designers, I was asking them about the future of our beloved metal companions and it's friends that Nissan also makes. They told me that the Maxima is going to have huge changes when the current model is redesigned along with the Altima and Quest. Suprisingly, the new Altimas and Quests are going to be built on the same platform as the current Max's. This would make the Altima the same size as the Maxima and put an available 222 HP engine in as an option (I didn't talk much about the Quest). The new Maxima's ARE going to be full sized cars and, they think, it's going to have an optional V8.
The engineers also brought up the Skyline in the course of the conversation. They said that the Skyline is the Japanese clone of the Max, but has a mildly different body style and a much more potent engine lurking under the hood. There has been speculation throughout the company that Nissan is looking at bringing the car to the American markets, but there is a lot of work to be done on the car first. First of all, it won't pass any emissions in the US and, secondly, the car is only a right hand driver at this time. There are also some minor safty issues to be taken care of before the US will allow them to sell it here.
So, I don't know what the future is going to hold for the Maxima, but the guys said that it will definitely be here in the future b/c of the brand recognition associated with the car. However, if the company makes it a full sized car, it will, with no doubt, lose it's sportiness which we've all grown to love. We shall see.

***FYI***Well if u want a SKYLINE NOW, theres a company called Moterex www.skylinegtr.com in Cali that imports used R32,33's...So if u save about 50k+ u dont have to wait till Nissan offers it in the U.S market if your interested
Yeah, Motorex DOES import used Skylines for anyone with the money, but they haven't changed the right-hand drive scheme on any of them. There's a big write-up on them in the current issue of Sport Compact Car. All the emissions work has been taken care of by them, so it'll even pass California's strict emissions standards. Just think about pulling up to your local 7-11 with one of THOSE!!

Most likely the same V8 that is in the Nissan Cima.

Sounds like they are talking bollocks to me. Looks nothing like a Max, has a different engine layout and chassis.

I would have thought that Japan would have had as tight emissions as the US. Unfortunate that you guys don't get Skylines as a standard model line. Just to rub it in, we get the GT-R V spec skyline plus the GT-T model as factory backed models. You can also get them via an aftermarket tuner in Japan with up to 1000 Hp! Yikes!

The Altima will not have a 222HP option, it will have a 240HP VQ option with the QR25DE standard. IRS, 6Speed available. Camary competitor, but it will actually not be any competition at all :0)
The Maxima will have more HP (and displacement) next year, and the year or so after it will have a V8 standard. Most likely this will be the same V8 as the new Q45
The Skyline is NOTHING like the Maxima AT ALL. A slightly different body style? LOL. I can't believe they said anything like that to you. Also, Nissan will NOT bring the Skyline to America, it is not going to happen.

so let me get this straight...if the maxima goes to a full size sedan, then the altima will replace it by becoming a mid size sedan? if that is true and it has the 222 hp engine, yes, i do believe i will be getting it. hehe
