Well I guess this is goodbye....
So my saga with 3rdGens ends today. I am desperate for a car and the Maxima is not getting fixed any time soon. After having two 3rd gens die on me in less than two months I was going to buy a 1989 Nissan 240SX but I got a great on a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO. It's a 5sp and it's got the police package. Best of all it belonged to my mechanic and I know personally it has new tire, rotors, pads, fuel lines, alternator, soleinoids, struts and clutch. Plus he recently tuned up the engine. Full power everything and leather interior.
Somehow I feel like I am betraying all of you, as if I were cheating on Maxi, yet my back is against the wall: I need a car now, I'm short on cash and my mother wants me out of the house. I guess I should just be happy I found a worthy replacement for my Maxima, after all it could have been a lot worse and I could have been stuck with a Civic or something....
I'll still be hanging out in the .Org although not as a much as usual. I'll still keep my '94 VG, it will just not be running until I can afford to do something special to it. Maybe a turbo eventually since it will not be my daily driver. (Or maybe I can swap in a RB26DETT, make it AWD and put Skyline R33 Taillights---why is that the new craze between noobs?)
I guess I just want to say thanks to everyone who has halped me until now and I really hope this is not a goodbye, just a See You Later....

An SHO, small world, I was looking at an 89, a 91, and a 95 before I found my 92 Max. I would have gone with one of the SHOs but the Maxima was in a lot nicer shape, and after doing some research and driving it, found it to be a great car. I got interested in SHOs, and appreciative of them, whem my Dad bought a 1994 SHO 5 spd. I think it's even more of a sleeper than a Maxima, because no one ever expects a Taurus with power and handling. Even more base level Maximas are still pretty sporty and while family cars are known for their characteristics, but a Taurus is plain and simple a grocery getter...except in the case of an SHO which can hand with and sometimes take 5.0Ls and F-body's from the era and ****es 'em off. The VE and VQ engines looks pretty neat under the hood, but I don't think anyone could honestly admit they look as good as the SHOs Yamaha V6, it's crazy looking with all those intake runners. You may have figured out, 4000rpm is the magical number. That's when the secondary intake opens and the power really comes on, and builds until redline. It comes on strong, adn actually feels like a small supercharger or turbo kicking in. One thing I really like about it, is by 94 all the cars had bigger front brakes, a bigger clutch and a rod shifter instead of cable. I love the feel of rods, and if I can every figure out how to have them on my Maxima I'll do it.

Awsome car. I beleive the stock Yamaha V6 puts out about 200hp. With a chip and an underdrive pully you can safely increase the redline to 8000rpm. The bottom end is indestructible. The factory redline is limited by the fact that the alternator will explode before the engine is stressed.

I also believe that if you do some good intake and exhaust work you will get even better results.
Oh yeah get that ignition thing checked out before you burn more than just rubber.

an 92 sho would spank any every 90's thunderbird made whether it be
5.0 http://car-stats.com/stats/showstats...tsgivenid.aspx
4.6 http://car-stats.com/stats/showstats...tsgivenid.aspx
SC3.8 http://car-stats.com/stats/showstats...tsgivenid.aspx
so if you were beating SHO's i guess you had alot of performance stuff done to your 5.0
