Removing Spoiler
Removing Spoiler
So I'm in the process of streamlining my car's look, and I think I am going to remove the side molding. I already took off the rediculously ugly stock fog lights, and then I want to remove the spoiler (the spoiler is in the process of removing itself, so I may as well help it along). Has anybody done this? I know there will be 4 holes at least when I'm done (two on each side), but what I don't know is what to expect when I remove the center piece with the light. Can this be done in a cheap manner? I would like to do as much as I can myself, to save money. Please, any tips or info from people who have seen the process would be greatly appreciated.

No advice but you sound like your in the same direction as me. Try to get some pics up if you can. http://imageshack.us/index3.php Image shack is your friend.
I still have my spoiler, but I was bored and tore mine apart last night and checked it out.
first take off the carpet on the trunk lid, I think there is 23 plastic clips holding it on.
and then you will see 4 studs with (I think they are 8mm) nuts on them kind of towards the center, take the nuts off.
and then there are 2 clips on each side of the spoiler ( which are probably rusted off anyway)
and for the third brake light there is probably a wire connection that unplugs (sorry I didn't check it out)
I hope this helps you out. I took pics, but I don't have any place to host any more pictures right now.
If you want them I can email them to you but you probably don't really need them, Its pretty easy.

if you take off the spoiler, you are going to have to fill in the holes or buy a GXE trunk without any holes. Brian (1989MaxMan) did this. He has a VE 5-speed, but he put some parts from his old same color GXE on it, including the trunk.
Another thing to keep in mind is that all cars built after a certain year (1986-ish?) have to have a collision (3rd brake) light. I think trucks were exempt until some time in the 90s. Anyway, just remember there is a possibility that you could get ticketed for not having this light if you remove your spoiler. Maybe you can somehow retrofit a GXE one in your back window or something.
