Maxima tranny?

Does anyone know from which car the Maxima auto tranny is from> Somewhere i heard it was form the Sentra and that was why it was so weak. Im not sure but all I know was when we had our 94 GXE the tranny went out 3 times before we sold it. Just trying to find out why the trannies were so crap. Also where the VG and VE auto trannies the same, and could you put a VE auto in a GXE or what?

u know i heard the same damn thing about our trannies and i have a '93 GXE and im doing the auto to manual swap right now. for some reason i believe that the '89-'91 auto trannies were weaker than the '92-'94 auto trannies. as for the VG and VE auto trannies i believe i read in here somewhere that they are interchangeable but im not 100% sure and also i think u would have to do some rewiring but still am not sure about it.

Well I have a 92 ve auto and my friend has a 91 se or gxe auto....It would be hard to tell which tranny is weaker....I think they are the same and interchangeble...the reason the gxe tranny may seem weaker is because the motor it is attached too has 30 less horse?

Hi,

one reason the tranny is weak on the earlier max because the tranny was design for a stanza/sentra and those engine are small compare to the max engine,

the other reason the tranny is weak because the tranny can't handle the torque of the engine,

the vg30e does not have less hp ,

The same auto tranny was used in the 90-92 Stanza, which is a 2.4l 4 cylinder. I have one, and my tranny is fine with 130K on it, but I replaced my Max tranny with 175K on it. Don't really know when Nissan started using this tranny, but I don't hear of many 2nd gens having tranny problems. I guess I'd say that it may not be enough for the V6.

2nd gen do have problems.
My trany was rebuilt when I bought the car. Its gotten worse over the last few years. But it still hasn't gone completly, even thou that 6 month warrenty has gone and its been 2.5 years it still works. I am planning on a valve body mod for the car. Hopefully this will help.(this will be for the rebuilt motor I will be working on)
