Clutch & Flywheel - Q's

I'm getting ready to do my 5spd swap and I just have a couple questions.
Which lightened flywheel is better? Fidanza or Unorthodox Racing?
Are there really anyways to tell which is better besides which is the lightest?
Who has the best price on lightened flywheels. I know that Jeff was/is selling fidanza flywheels for the VE's at a decent price but the VE flywheel is different than the VG flywheel.

Out of Centerforce, ACT & Exedy, which offers the best bang for the buck while still maintaining driveability. I've tried the act stage 1 on a 4th gen and i find it much too grabby for my liking. I've tried the centerforce on a protege and it seemed okay.
Which is usually the cheapest out of the 3 choices?

I'm more or less trying to decide if i want a performance clutch and flywheel now or in the spring...

Fidanza is generally the most used flywheel that I know of. They are priced lower than the Unorthodox and are very high quality. As for a clutch I recommend SPEC. Great prices and great quality. You could get a race clutch with a sprung hub if you wanted extreme grip yet good driveability. If anything I'd recommend a SPEC Stage 2 though. Still holds lots of power and won't chatter as much as the stage 3. www.nipponpower.com carries those clutches.

I wouldn't touch a centerforce with a ten foot pole. I've heard of them not lasting very long so I'd stay away from those.

mtcookson,
thanks for the help
klownpr109,
i plan on adding these mods for performance. but i want to keep things somewhat streetable. i know of some people that think the lightened flywheel negatively affects everyday driving but i guess i'll have to drive a car with one to really know.

i just had an exedy stage 1 and fidanza put in.

much, much better than before. the exedy is not that hard. the fidanza is also good. although i have only been driving it for a day so i can't really comment on the performance yet. waiting to break-in the clutch.

total for clutch/flywheel for me was $540 and labor was $250.

Fidanza/Exedy stage 1 here too (). I highly recommend it. Its like a stock clutch when you want it to be, but it grabs like a **** when you tell it to. Smooth consistant pedal pressure, and i've never heard anyone have problems with an Exedy having clutch chatter.

you should be able to find a fidanza for no more than $350. Matt and Jeff aren't selling them anymore, but since then other sites have popped up and I know you can get them for $340 shipped from one of them, I just forget the name

Fidanza and ACT Street disk here.

I love the combo. The Fidanza revs much more freely, and the ACT grabs when I need it to, and is great every day.

I have a Fidanza and ACT. My clutch grabs pretty good, but I like it better than stock. Before the Maxima, I had a Mustang GT, so I am kind of use to a lot of clutch pressure. For some reason, my ACT likes to chatter in reverse, but doesn't chatter in forward gears, or at least it didn't.

My VG Auto Tranny hasn't slipped once since I had it rebuilt in 96.
Damn, pretty good rebuild come to think of it.

i have Fidanza with Valeo clutch.
i've killed honduhs with that setup.
they (honduhs) cannot rev as high as soon, and
they lack torque. oops. i can't talk about
that.
for that matter, the OEM nissan setup
would die as well against a maxima with
a lightened flywheel, clutch, and a driver
who knows how to use them.

Centerforce = "Senseless-force"

We will have to see what Jeff says...

I am not going to ask him to rush.

My clutch is actually kind of like what LordRandall said, sometimes first thing it chatters a little, but it is barely noticeable. Nothing like reverse. Maybe things will be different now, who knows?
