Are performance struts recomended with lowering springs?

I was looking to put some eibach springs on my car, and i was looking at cardomain and pretty much everyone that has lowering springs has perf. struts. So i was wandering, is that just because its cheaper to do it at the same time, or is there something else to it.

p.s. dont be sarcastic, i know im clueless

lowering springs will destroy stock struts pretty fast.

If you have the money get Koni. If you dont have a lot of money then go with KYB. Tokico are inbetween the 2.

I'd recommend to stay away from KYB if you're getting Eibachs. the springs are just too stiff and will wear out the KYB in no time, plus you'll be bouncing everywhere.

Tokico Blues or Konis... . those are the best two options available to us.

but YES. definitely get good struts when you go with performance springs. the factory struts are just too soft and won't be able to hold the car on the road if you get stiffer springs.

I dont know man. Craig has had his for a while now and they seemed just fine and not bouncy to me when I rode with him. I think he has had them for over 2 years. How many Toks have you read about that have blown in that time?

I am even lower with Intrax and I dont bounce either with KYBs. Of course I may have only about 50 miles on mine in the 1.5 years I have had them LOL.

One day I will have my Konis.

I put over 50k miles on a set of Toks and didn't have a problem with them. the guys that have problems with them are 4th gens. they're just not valved stiff enough and they use an oil that wears out quickly in the 4th gen ones. 3rd gens don't have problems at all.

That's true. I need another car to not drive. The front of the house is looking bare with only 4 cars.

I had about 40-50k on my Tokicos. I thought they were fine until I took them out. Not totally shot but pretty damned close. Bascily all worn out.

LOL the only negative comment was from Matt. Everyone else said they liked theirs. Of course Matt is "the" man when it comes to suspension. I just think that for the money they are fine with Eibachs.

heh, i guess i wasn't paying attention to who said what while reading the posts.. but suspension upgrades might be a little long way away for me.

i got school starting and i gotta pay for all sorts of stuff, no more money to put into my max...

If you can swing it, buy Konis. I went from Toks to Koni, and if I had to do it over again, I would have got the Konis in the first place.

Are your recommendations pretty much the same if you are not lowering the car, i.e. staying with stock springs?

From what I read, it would be:
1) Koni
2) Tokico Blues
3) KYB
in that order.

Just put 17's on instead of the 15" stock wheels, and now wondering if I will soon need something better than the stock struts.

hot for the blues, then blue

toks are great feeling with ST, for example.
they wore out after about 18 months. then i couldn't really justify at the time the expensive konis. so i'm back with blues. they're great. i'm more vigilant
about potholes, although i still drive aggressively. i just kept my receipt
this time around. they have lifetime warranty. is void with lowering, but who will know.

With stock springs you should be fine with GR2's.

yeah, I've had KYB and eibach combo for a while now and they still handle pretty nicely. Only time it's harsh at all is going over speed bumps, but normal driving is pretty smooth and handling is great (and then rear sway bar made it even better).

but yeah, if you can afford it, go Koni
