hood
Sorry if this has been asked i couldn't find an answer on FAQ. Does anyone know how to fix the hood so that it stays up on its own. I know my hood used tos tay up by itself but now i have to put a wooden stake there or else the hood will fall on my head. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

when my hood struts went bad, I found out the hard way...very hard.
Autozone, Advance Auto or Courtesy Nissan should have the replacement struts...someone posted the part numbers a while back, but I'm sure you can just go there and get them. think they were $35 or so

hmm I think I would have spent another 15 for new struts and not have to worry about it for a while. I think I paid around $30 for mine brand new from advance auto. No drilling required on mine either. I may be wrong and they were a little more but I am pretty sure it was only $30.

I have a scar on my forehead from where the hood came down on me while I was close to the where the fender edge would be if it were on at the time. Instead the fender was off and the hood drove my head into the sharpe edges of where the body meets. It didnt feel too good to be hit in the back of the head that hard and then have the cut on my forehead from the edges.
I never worked on the car after that without a broom handle or something holding it up.
Heck even now with my new struts I still get a little nervous.

why opt for spending? just use that 6" vise grip which is taking up space in your tool box. lift the hood and clamp it onto the (nearest) hood strut. when you are done clamp it lightly, (yet tight enough not to loose it or damage what it is clamped to) some where out of the way, over say the cable that actuates the hood latch seems to work.
ya guess i am cheap, but have had other priorities to fix first. struts, windows, e-brake, brake pads. vice grip works worlds better than the custom broom stick. also better than my adjustable shovel used last winter. thought the hood would stay up during the summer. boy was i wrong. two nice divots from my jumper cables beautifully poking up above my battery. no my head was not in there!
bottom line, if you've got the disposeable income go for new!

my hood won't fall on my head, and it's difficult for it to fall on my head...
my hood struts are old and stiff as hell.. it takes a little bit of strength to lift it up, and takes equally much to pull it back down.. i guess i should be happy eh...
i tried to lube it up with WD40 but it didn't help.. but oh wellz.. as long as it holds it up my head is still safe..
