does anybody know what this is?

it was bolted on the floor of the trunk, like right behind the back seat.

they told me to trash it on a car audio forum i'm on, so i did.
was this a bad idea? it still rides the same.

it's added weight in the trunk. i guess to make the **** end more stable.

 

thats what i thought, cause it was pretty heavy and right in the center above the rear wheels.
