yet another bose question

so i have the standard bose crackling - actually sounds more like bad reception in some cases and then like it's cutting out in other cases. but before i go swapping out amps and speakers i wanted to ask about another phemenon regarding rain/humidity. seems like whenver it has rained or is extremely humid, the radio will turn on but absolutely no sound anywhere. there are times when this stereo works perfectly so i can't see there being an actual component failure.

just buy an aftermarket HU and speaker and toss the bose setup.

Why? Don't you want your ride to be the best as possible?

There are several websites that will repair Bose amps and headunits if you REALLY want to stay stock. It'll cost you about as much as it would to redo the system, but if you want the bose, it can be salvaged. I can't really remember the names of the places right now, but look up "bose repair" or something like that on google and you should find a couple places (I think one of them is davescoolstuff or something similar to that).

Yes, you can put a 4th gen HU in, but you'll need to make an adapter harness since the plugs are different. I think internetautomar said before that he could get the parts for it.

This might help some of you guys. I used this page when working on the BOSE system in my 300zx. Turns out my crackling sound was an easy fix. Hope this helps.

Sometimes that scratchiness is just dirt in the volume potentiometer. Go to a real electronics store and buy a can of spray cleaner/lubricant made for this application. Get into the unit and spray this right into the guts of the volume control then spin it back and forth from zero volume to full volume. Do all this with the power OFF of course. It may even fix the no sound problem. This is not a head cleaner or laser cleaner--don't use it on tape heads or the CD laser.

up until 94, in 95 they changed the connectors in the back of the HU, if you want you can make a swap harness.

One morning driving to work I smelled burning semiconductors and now my Bose has the scratchy sound and sometines the volume is not there when I turn it on and it finally comes on slowly like the old vacuum tube radios. It seems to be worse the colder the temperature.
