Sonar Supension System
Sonar Supension System
I think my max had the sonar suspension system option installed from the previous owner but i am not sure it works. It has a button where you are supposed to be able to choose how stiff you want the suspension, but when i switch the button it doesn't seem to change the stiffness.
Any ideas as to what may be going on here?

shocks blown, system doesn't work, someone replaced the shocks with non-adjustable oem ones etc...........
How about taking a wheel off and looking? Adjustable ones should have an electrical connection on the shock somewhere.

heh.. I thought you'd see it my way.
If you want some "regular" replacements, the KYB GR-2 are a minimum recommended, and Tokico are the nest step up from there. Then it's Koni.
stay away from the cheapo parts store brands like Monroe.

Not on a Maxima they're not.
some other nissans have Tokico's Illumina type which are adjustable, but the Maxima doesn't. the only adjustable shock for the 3rd gen is the Koni orange- and they're only internally adjustable. (have to pull the spring off to adjust them.)
4th gens get KYB AGX which are externally adjustable, but they won't stand a chance in fitting the 3rd gen.

or you can go with manually adjustable Konis (MUCH MUCH MUCH better!) for about $550/set + shipping.

Has Anyone ever taken it up with Tokico or KYB as to why they haven't made their Illuminas/AGXs for the 89-94 Max's, and what it would take for them to do that? Just curious. I think it would be awsome to have that adjustability. Then all we would have to do is come up with a marketable super and turbo chager kit and more body kits (like Skyline!) to compete with the 4th and 5th gens. Any info would be great!

mrkanda,
there's no money in making parts for 3rd gen maximas. the only way we get new parts is when members here such as Matt create beneficial mods for us.
BTW,
i thought we get koni yellows, not reds.
according to the picture,
i guess its reds then.
