I weighed in at 3680 weight reduction UPDATED!

Ok I went to the scales today to weighed my car in. I have a big system in my car If you look at my home page you will see. Im putting a turbo on my max and im keeping the system too. Well I had misc items in my car along with the turbo and some of the piping. Now I want a fairley quick car but im not going all out for racing and I want to keep my system Ive got a few ways to cut some of the weight like making some of the stuff out of fiberglass and taking out the spare tire and the weld( getting ready for the second magnaflow muffler yes i know more weight) and that black rubber cylinder in the trunk and getting rid of these hevey bling bling Ive got. Im doing the five speed swap in about two weeks. Now for some questions

1st How much does are car weigh stock ( 93 gxe auto)

2nd Does the 5 speed tranny weigh less than the auto ( how much)

3rd Any other safe ways to cut weight

Rims, holy crap, look at the stereo stuff...

I would say your car is never going to be very fast, unless you shave down the system or get the hp up in the 300 neighborhood or beyond.

IIRC, the stock weight for a 3rd gen is around 3100 lbs. without anyone in it. Was that nearly 3700 lbs with you in the car?

You are talking about saving a pound or two here and there, when you need to shave a few hundred pounds.

Where is Aaron when you need him? He studies hp to weight ratios and engine mods, etc., like you wouldn't believe. That guy knows his sh*t.

Anyway, you are roughly 600 pounds heavy, so I suggest you just stay the bling bling/show route with your car, since most stock four door Accords will eat you up at the track with that extra weight. That's like racing with four extra people in the car.

Well I hoping to cut about 100lb to 150lb total. Believe it or not not many stock honda's give me any problems when I was stock and with cai and the small muffler work that ive done that might have given 10hp maybe I pull on away from them. Interstate 1/4 mile what ever. But im going to cut all weight that I can and after I get the boost and fuel taken care of we shall see what it will do remember im not going all out for racing but my car is realy slow the way it is.

why don't you cut down on how much excess stereo equipment you have.
I say excess, because I'll bet that you don't even use half the wattage you've got on tap.

yea...you should drop the mondo stereo if you want a turbo....and the only thing that makes a turbo worth buying is racing it...and with that stereo, it doesnt look like you'll be racing too often.

honestly dude i woulndt even waste your money on going turbo and 5 speed swap, like reygarcia said, its one or the other, my car is fully gutted and i can probably bet im still weighing in at about 3300-3400 lbs.

your not going to benefit much from a turbo, it will probably just give you enough power to make it feel back to stock specs again...if anyone understands what im saying

anyways thats just my opinio

Yes, but that is including all fluids topped off with 5 passengers in the car (150lb each).

Might want to look into a Gym membership and a diet??? just a thought

I've lost 25lbs in the past year and going for another 10, so it is worth doing for your health too.

Brian

PS. Could also get runflats, and lose the spare tire (doughnut) or carry a tire patching kit.

when I raced my car, I took out the spare, jack and basically everything in the trunk. I should have taken out the seats, too. Oh, well, I'll have something to look forward to next time.

I really dont know what the purpose of having all those speakers behind your head is. I have one ten and it is plenty for me and I still have my trunk space and back seat. You must live in a good neighborhood, cause where I am from, they would car jack you and strip that sucker.

Ok guys well I did a little work in the trunk this weekend and Got out a whole 85lb from the old amp rack made of 1 inch mdf and took out the spare tire and weld.Ok not unless you are going with dual exaust there is no reason to cut the spare tire weld for a weight reduction. You wolud be better off to stop and take a ****. The weld weights like 4 pounds. Ok I made my new rack out of a little bit of wood and mostly fiberglass.I dont have pics yet but will post them soon. Ok when I weighed in that was with a 1/2 tank of gas and the turbo manifolds and the pipping in the car along with the turbo so I will lose the weight of the stock manifolds and the factory y pipe too. The new box that im going to build out of 3/4 mdf and fiberglass should weigh like 100lb less and I should get 25lb to 30lb out of the tranny swap Witch now im thinking that will get my weight back to around 3400lb And a nother thing is when I go to the track and race I can take this stuff out too. oh yeah for got about the weight of the rims too so when I change them hey there go's more weight.

Ok mr gone Im running a clarion 610 head unit with 6.5 tv screen and built in am fm tuner and changer controler. Im running a claroion 955zz (I think thats the model #) stand along dvd player that has a built in 5.1 dolby and eq witch is the unit in the old rear view

the only thing is people do it all of the time with supras, 3000gt's, and old muslce cars.

going turbo will definitely make it much quicker. even with all of the weight it'd be worth it imo.

most people aren't turboing a car with 500+ lbs of stereo gear in it though.

BTW he could always burn hispassenger seat to make it lighter

Save some curb weight and get some lighter rims. Tire and wheel weight can really slow you down.

true, but this is more so my point though...

in my mind it just defeats the purpose, but maybe just because tons of stereo **** is pointless to me now though...

but they are turboing cars with equal amounts of weight, since that's the issue here. true, going heavier makes it slower but peope still mod cars they weigh nearly 2 tons, otherwise they'd be quite slow

I think the point is, he is just bringing his times back up to stock, since the added weight negates the added power of the turbo.

In other words, maybe a stock VG (3100 lbs) runs like 16.2 and a turbo VG with 500 extra pounds of stereo gear runs a 16.2.

A supra or 3000GT starts out with a lot of weight and most guys serious about making them go fast try their best to remove weight and add more boost.

If he wanted to race the thing, clean out everything in the car and then put in a turbo and try to get into the low 15s.

yea....but with all that stereo equipment, why not save the turbo money and get a truck or suv...something that has enough room for 2000 subs and still has power to move you down the road.

they say that generally you gain a 10th in the 1/4 for ever 100 lbs. lost.

say for instance he ran a 16.4 stock. now say he added a turbo and ran 15. if he added 500 pounds to the car (if the 100 lbs per 10th is correct) that would drop the car to the 15.5 range. still substantially quicker. also, 16.4 is what i ran stock and i'm almost positive i'm running low 15's or very high 14's now. hopefully i'll know soon though.

OK after redoing some work in the trunk with the amprack and the 5 speed swap I now weight 3560. So I got rid of some of the weight and got some work to do on the box inside to get rid of another 50 to 100lb.
