Auto tranny woes...

My friend just recieved a 1993 Maxima from a friend because it has transmission problems. The car has a 3.0l SOHC engine w/ auto. The transmission has a delayed engagement into forward gears and feels like there is no power. It also seems like there is no shifting. It barely drags. The original owners said that it felt funny so they had a service done to it and now the tranny doesn't work for crap. Any suggestions with details would help. Maybe some throttle valve adjustments or etc. I am going to check the fluid and filter. They just said the car was serviced not the tranny, they were very bleak about the service. Anyway the engine runs good and car is in really good shape except the transmission. Need help...

You can try to change the tranny fluid, but odds are the tranny is toast. They are notorious for going like that. If you get another tranny, install a tranny cooler as heat kill them.

Good Luck! Joe

We checked the fluid and it wasn't bad. When messing with it we noticed it makes a scuffing sound when put in gear. My guess is the transmission is gone. The transmission made it 160,000miles so I guess it is time for a new one. My best guess right now is a new torque converter and transmission.
