oil in cylinder
oil in cylinder
well i listened to a mechanic's advice to hydrolock a piston in the cylinder on the compression stroke in order to have the torque to remove the crankshaft bolt for timing belt replacement. it worked like a charm - or so i thought.
the timing belt is replaced and i vacuumed (sp?) as much of the oil out of the cyclinder as I could.
but when i start the car I am running some thick clouds of white smoke out of the tail pipe... not the usual bluish color for oil. the neighbors have all come over to see what the hell i'm doing. the white smoke really lasts as it drifts down the street, it's definitely not steam. not sure that its just oil either though....
now i'm just not sure what's going on. i replaced the therm. & water pump as well... everything seems to be running fine, but then there is that smoke.
it's the project that never ends

being the genious i am. i poured it in there as you can read in the 1st post here.
man i drove around the block a few times. at first, no smoke, then it started really coming in. oh god
i was fumigating the whole neighborhood, some fat guy started running after me
so i left him in a cloud of smoke and hid the car. just got back from walking home.
there must still be a lot of oil in there. i guess i'm going to let it cool, then remove the plug in the #1 cylinder, put something in there that is safe for the cylinder and can mix with the oil, then pump it out the spark plug hole via turning the crankshaft by hand. i still don't know what substance i can safely use to do that. any suggestions?

i was hoping that there was a typo somewhere there...just didn't wanna belive that someone intentionally poured oil into a cylinder or even worse that someoene calling themsleves a mechanic actually suggested it
'we're gonna smoke 'em out!' and that's what I did. i just finished fumigated middle new jersey. Everything seems fine now.
I don't know if the hydrolock with oil was really a bad idea. I should have prepared to clean it out of the cylinder better though...
I actually broke my original crankshaft pulley trying to get the lug nut off the first time. The metal is actually pretty crappy in the stock piece. Then I had to get a new one so I got an unorthodox underdrive pulley just for the hell of it. might as well. But the hydrolock was the only thing that allowed me to get the leverage to get that nut off. next time i'll probably use some cotton rope in the cylinder instead.

i just kind of went crazy. one day no mods, i'm happy - next day... just got the itch to do some projects. replaced timing belt, got the unorthodox UDP, a K&N intake, warpspeed y-pipe, magnaflo hi-flo cat. car is running great, a bit faster than it used to be and still needs some fine tuning, then i'll say if it was all worth it or not. i know there is not much love for bolt ons, let alone bolt ons on a gxe

I'm dying at the fact that you filled your cylinder with oil.
a much safer, smarter way would be to put a pry bar on a flywheel/flexplate tooth, or simply put it in gear and set the car on the ground or have someone step on the brakes.
