300zx engine question
300zx engine question
is the 300zx engine the same as the 92-94 Nissan Maxima engine?
I can get one that came out of a non-turbo'd 300zx for cheap, but I have to rebuild it... But before I start putting new parts in it, I was wondering if it would fit in my car, with a new tranny also.
I know I got a lot to do, and a lot to change, but it's worth a try...

short answer is no
internals from the Z will fit in the VE, as julio and i have both proven. rods are basically the same but you want to use VE rods as the VE block does not have oil squirters but the pistons do, the Z block has the squirters not the rods. also, you have a VG, so get the Z motor for cheap use the rods and pistons from that (as SOHC VG rods dont work with Z/VE pistons, wristpin point is different) and have a high compression SOHC VG. this will work better for you as it'll be a major PITA to wire the VE plus you'll be able to just get a SOHC VG 5spd tranny without many headaches. besides that everything else will work from the SOHC VG block.
