Converted to VE power

I'm now the owner of a 93 VE 5speed. Its charcoal metallic with black leather. All options; where do I check to see if it has VLSD?

Metal plate on the firewall.....if the last letter in the tranny code is a "V", then you have a VLSD.

Congrats! Sounds like a nice car. Most all VE 5-spd's have lsd, and I believe that is represented by a V at the end of the tranny code on the firewall plate under the hood.

^^ahh, beat me to it!

This is my first time owning a manual transmission car, although I have driven a couple, I'm no expert when it comes to launching but practice makes perfect. I did do 3-4 WOT runs from 2-4th gear. Poor little Monte Carlo LS didn't know what was coming to him My 2-3shift has much improved and I'm rushing through the gears now at WOT.

VE 5speeds run about 15.3@91mph right? 2nd and 3rd gear pull from 2,500rpm to redline is awesome. There is a V in the end of that plate located on the firewall after a series of letters and numbers.

The VE engine is awesome! When I went in for a test drive, I thought it was going to be a crude engine because of its iron block/heads compared to the VQ. Its almost as smooth and TQ'ey and just as fun in acceleration as the 98 I also test drove.

with a few mods you should be able to run very low 15s no problem. With more more mods and a good launch, you can reach 14s.

if you want to free up hp, initially the best things to get are a y-pipe and an intake of some kind.

Part of the 1/4 time depends on where you live.. I ran a 15.1 with only intake and UDP. in Kansas City.

At Houston, ran a 14.73 with intake, UDP, and flywheel (same slipping clutch). I highly doubt the .4sec I dropped was only due to the flywheel.

Very true... I ran a 14.96, but I only trapped at 90 at my local track.

We have an iron block but aluminum heads. If anything, it makes the engine more durable. Abiet heavier.

i think those numbers you were referring to were the stock numbers ran by C+D back in 92. Now that these cars are so old, the times aren't there anymore. With a few bolt-ons you can get back tho.

My car is the victim of the window regulator, that screw driver is holding the window in place so it doesn't fall down. When I bought the car, I was told that the window wasn't functioning. I happened to play with the window switch, got it to roll down, but it doesn't roll back up so I had to cut the wire on the regulator to move the window back up. Otherwise, the car is in prestine condition interior/exterior and everything functions.

VLSD

Engine bay needs detailing and washing so I'm not going to show those until then

I can't believe a car with this many miles has no squeaks and rattles whatsoever. I still have my Courtesy FSTB from my A33, I wonder if it fits?

Sure about the times, or sure that the maxima can't reach them because its old? I dont know the exact times but I know they are in the 15s. And at least my car is old enough that it can't reach that time stock.

The window regulator is a very easy fix. I think I paid $60 shipped for one off of ebay with a new window motor and used Craig Brace's site. The first one took me over an hour (yeah, I am slow) but the second one I did only took like 30 minutes or so.

When we had the Northwest Maxima Import Challenge in May, two guys had brand new (to them) totally stock cars. One was a VE 5-speed that I think even had a paper air filter in it and I believe he ran a 15.6. The other was a 98 4th gen 5-speed that the guy bought the day before and I think he was in the mid 15s, too. It was also 85 degrees out. Both cars were over stock and had over 80k and both put up respectible numbers with drivers that hadn't even owned the car very long, let alone race them.

Were Black and Charcoal the only colors to have body color lower body panels? Also, I can't seem to find the transmission dipstick

Manual trannies don't have transmission dipsticks. Theres a fill plug for your transmission, unbolt it and stick a finger in. Fluid should be just to the bottom of the fill plug hole. Oh, and the fluid smells like ****. Just warning you.

ScreamingVQ: Do you want to buy a window regulator? I've got the front passenger side one still left in my parts car.
