A few rebuild questions.

Hey people,

I am about to buy a gen3 Max that needs the rings done in it. Has anyone done this before? Did you have to pull your motor out?

Is there anything that is a common or not so common problems with the gen 3 Maxs' that i should also look for?

Are the autos in these really as bad as they seem after reading through this forum?

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

if you're doing rings I'd highly recommend pulling the engine and doing bearings at the same time, it would in my opinion be easier

yes the auto are realy bad although I did get 165,000 out of mine before it started slipping They said it would happen and it did now going with the 5 speed swap. the vg30e is very good motor takes a beating and keeps going.
Just not very fast though

The aussie models are VQ30's as far as i know. even in the older gen 3's. correct me if i am wrong but.

But apart for auto they are OK?

What do you reckon a set of rings and bearing is worth?
