I had one on my old white max. There is room! Mount the cooler in front of the radiator and disconnect the return line from the stock tranny cooler (at the bottom of the radiator) and feed it to the inlet of the new tranny cooler, and run the outlet of the new cooler to the transmission.

This article is VERY helpful: https://maxima.org/modules.php?name=TMC

It is for a 4th gen, but the procedure is exactly the same -- the only difference is that you have less clearance for the tranny hoses at the bottom of the car because our radiators are thicker than 4th gen ones.

Hey Jbr8k, when you're done getting it installed, tell me how it turns out.

A tranny cooler can only help (as long as its installed right!). My GXE slipped in O/D on the interstate and on hard acceleration. I changed the fluid, and put in a cooler and it got a little better. I drove the car for over a year before I got my SE and it NEVER got any worse.

There is room, you just have to be creative. Its not hard to do yourself.

It dosent get blistering cold in the winter in KY, but even when it was extremely cold here (0-15 degress F) I never noticed a problem with it.

Good Luck!

I used it in Massachusetts winters, it just took a little longer for the fluid to heat up. One thing you should NOT do is buy the biggest one possible, it is overkill. I bought a small B&M fin type (a little more efficient than the shell and tube type pictured in the writeup). Supposedly it has bypass valves in it so when the fluid was cold it wouldn't go across the channels and cool even more. Secondly, you can make a cardboard cutout of the face of the tranny cooler and zip tie it to the cooler in the winter.

Check out *this* link. I bought the smallest one there (also the cheapest). As you can see it is rated for 16,000 lbs so it is more than enough.

I have a tranny cooler installed on my max . and i put it right on front of my radiator. give me your email address and i'll send you of pic. of the excact location to where i put it. I also have a tranny temp. gauge installed on my car and my tranny stayed fairly cool this summer; ranging anywhere between 110' to 150' degrees.
The reason I installed it is because i'm planning on running N20 and I don't want to fry the clutches inside the tranny.
