pacesetter headers

Hi, I have a 91 maxima and I purchased headers from pacesetter. They are the worst company i have ever delt with. The headers were not made correctly. I was curious if anybody had the same problems.

Ooohhhh, shoulda gotten an opinion here before you bought 'em. In a nutshell, Pacesetter products are the aftermarket automotive performance equivalent of AIDS.

There's a New Zealand company that makes them, but they cost $$$$. Honestly, the gains of a complete header system are minimal for the extra cost involved vs. just buying a y-pipe (collector pipe, down pipe, whatever you want to call it). Just buy a warpspeed y-pipe for $200 and be done with it. Check out Mr. Gone's thread for a pic of it.

give cattman a shout. maybe this can kindle another round of custom orders. he does it about once a year or so. they're made in New Zealand by a racing shop.

i have a set of pacesetters that i never installed. i use them as bookends in my office. they kind of look neat as abstract sculptures.

pacesetter has ok products............ that is ...unless it's for a nissan. typically for moderate horsepower cars you can expect about 100$ a horsepower.(assuming all bolt ons are already done with and moving on to non-bolt ons) correct me if i'm wrong, but according from what i hear for gains, pacesetter is about $150 per hp for a big hammer bash fit bolt-on headers.

They Use To Loosen at the where the front header and downpipe connected, But lock tight took care of that!!! Then I shot a rod through ma oil pan Dead Maxima! Stay as far away from pacesetter as you can.

To give you an idea of how well nissan designs their manifolds i'll give you guys some info on the older 300ZX Turbo (84-89). The manifolds used a crossover pipe design. That is, what would be the rear manifold on our cars crossover over the side of the engine and was bolted directly to an extra port on the front manifold. From there, the front manifold was split into two sections, one for the front bank and the other for the rear bank like this:

Even with that design (which I can tell you made it quite tight in there) can still flow enough exhaust for 400 hp as proven by a person with a 300ZX Turbo pushing that amount of horsepower. The design of the manifolds on the Maxima appear to be able to flow much better while the restriction definitely comes from the y-pipe.

I don't think there will be any vg30e 400 hp nitrous, all motor, or supercharged Maximas any time soon so you guys should be quite fine with the stock manifolds even with every bolt on you can find. You won't be maxing out the flow of these manifolds anytime soon with that stuff.
