Manual trany not going into gear.
Hey guys I am in the process of swaping a manual tranny into my 91 GXE, I got the donar car from a salvage yard so I thought I should open the case on the tranny b4 I put it in my car to make sure all the gears and bearing were fine. Everything looked nice and wear free so I followed the service manuals instructions on putting the case back on. Now I can't get the freakin thing to switch gears, I don't have it in the car because I don't have the clutch yet but I hooked all the shifter linkage up to it to see if I could change the gears that way and it is still stuck in some gear. Did I do something wrong putting the case back together, It seemed to just slide right down together with no hassel. I thought it was fine but I don't know. Maybe it is just realy hard to shift until it is in the car I did'nt put tranny fluid in yet, would that have anything to do with it?

Hey,
I had a similar prob in my swap. Try to find the check *****. They are located near the shifter mechanism within the case. If the springs and ***** are not taken out prior to splitting the case you could have a prob. Look in the srvc manual (FSM is best). It will tell you more. I have a VE FSM. I'd fax you a diagram if i had it for the VG.
Good Luck,

sorry fellas, I took the case back off again and looked down closely at the striking rod and noticed a little piece of white plastic blocking its range of motion. I guess when I took the case off the first time I failed to notice i knocked off the neutral safety switch connector, it comes out really easy and fell down to bottom of case,LOL oops..
