whats up guys, well i'm going to have to buy some new springs and struts, the springs i have figured out, im going to get the ST springs, but as far as the struts go, i have no CLUE, people are saying that the TOK's give out after a few thousand miles, and the KONI's need some kind of special custom work done to them, i really dont know what to do, i need some struts that'll last me a while and wont mess up quickly, thanx a lot for responding, peaCe

well....tok's have been known for poor quality amongst the 4h gener's...i haven't heard too many problems with the 3rd gener's which is why i went with them...the koni's are almost twice as much so that's why i didn't get em...

your only other choices are pretty much stock and KYB...stocks will wear out fast and i haven't heard anything about KYB...

KYB

I have a KYB & ST combo set up. I like it allot. I have had them for probably 15K miles without any problems. The KYB struts are pretty cheap, and they do a realy good job for the money. Allot better than stock.

Struts

Koni's are by FAR the superior shocks, but only the back ones will bolt in.

Look at the Koni install instructions at maximadriver.com and decide if you want to do this.

I did not know any of this when I bought my Toks 40,000 miles ago. I was talked out of the Koni's due to unavailability, and went with the Toks. They are weakening now, but nowhere near as bad as my factory struts were after 20K miles. I don't have upgraded springs which will demand a better strut, and will beat up the Toks a lot faster than 40K if you go with that combo. I have seen about 12 installations of Konis on various cars from Volvo's to VW Beetles. I have never seen any of these not last the life of the car. Not so with my Toks for which I had the same (but unmet) expectation.

If you plan to keep your Max, go with the Konis.

Good luck,
John

I highly doubt you will get your products from them, they are very unreliable. Koni's have been on backorder many places too, so don't count on getting them any tmie soon.

multiply that by 2, the prices on carparts.com are for one strut, so what they have listed $150-whatever coupon, it would be atleast $500

Browse through either the General Discussion forum or the 5th Gen forum. In them, someone made the discovery the Tokico's are OEM on later generation Maximas. I think that says something for quality right there...

Tokcio has always made the struts for the Maximas. This does not mean that the struts that Tokcio sells to Nissan are exactly the same that they sell aftermarket, even for the same application. The only real high performance struts made for the Maxima are Koni.
