E36 lights installed!!!

Just got done with installing my BMW lights... I thought it was going to be alot more difficult than it ended up being. They definately make the car look soo much better... and this is with all the gaps(which I took my time to eliminate.. but could not fix them all).

Couple of questions... 1) How long will it take for the stock wiring harness to melt down.. did not have time to beef it up yet...sounds like a good weekend project... 2)Is there any way to wire it so that the low beam bulb stays on when the highs are switched on?

Thanks
-Rob

1. i guess it depends on the watts or volts of the bulbs u put in but not sure.
2. at this point i don't think no one has tried doin' this cuz the BMW have different headlight switch than ours thats y theirs can stay on while the high beams r on but right now im tryin' to workin' on something like that for my car.

Cool, do you have any pics? As for the wiring, you should be fine if you used 55W bulbs.

I should have Pics tomorrow.. when its light out... I think im using 65watt bulbs.. I never looked at them carefully... they came with the lights... Shouldnt the 15watt fuses on the head light circuit blow before it melts down?

The 15A fuse will only blow if the current exceeds that amount. I'm not sure what kind of current the headlights pull, but a higher wattage will pull more amps, so the wires will get hotter, but there may not necessarily be enough current (amps) to blow the fuse. A 65W bulb shouldnt be enough to burn anything up quickly though.

yea im wondering about #2 also..

brad i notice on your pics you have the projectors on along with the high beams, did you have to modify the wiring to do that?

No, that picture is just with the low beams on and the daytime running lights. I would also like to know how to have the low beams on while the brights are on. Maybe a relay would be able to do it....

Solved!!! I got it to work... my low beams stay on when I turn the highs on... and it is bright! When I upgraded the wiring harness using relays (Thanks Craig Brace) I spliced a 3rd relay into the signal comming from the high beam wire and sent the power to each low beam light... It could probably be done without another realy but I didnt want to put too much current through the high beam relay and I had an extra relay around...
