Leaking Gas !!!! Help

I filled my tank last night and Drove home and parked. Now im at work and i get a call from my wife saying that the fire department is going to tow the car because the tank is leaking a good amount of gas. This is something that seems to be going on off and on. it stopped for a long time now it seems like it doing it again. I was hoping that maybe someone knows what part it is and how i can fix it. Its not the tank itself. I think its the hose or something that goes from the fuel intake to the part that goes into the tank. I dont know thats where i was looking before. Someone please help.

There was a recall on certain years of Maximas for a corrosion problem that would affect the filler neck. It sounds like you might have that problem. I don't remember the specifics, but there is a semi-recent thread about someone who got theirs fixed under the recall. Basically crud gets kicked up in there and rusts the neck out. I think it's limited also to cars that were sold in areas that use salt on the roads, or at least areas that are prone to rust. If yours has always been in the northeast, then it would probably qualify.

the other option is the overflow tube...that's where mine is leaking from. I haven't fixed it yet sicne the gas level drops below this point after about 15 miles of driving.

maybe just drive it around a bit if it's just a steady drip to lower the level or you may need to drain the tank before you can work on it. Just make sure there's enough ventilation and no sparks or flames around

Well thanks to everyone who helped me out on this issue so far. I found out the problem and bought the piece that needs to be replaced. It was the vent hose. It had an inch wide rip that was near the clamp. I will replace it as soon as i can. I understand that i just have to drop the tank a little and replace? If someone knows a better or easier way to do this it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. If theres a tut that will be good too.
