how do i fix my trunk switch

i went to go pump my gas, and i told my friend to open the gas tank, instead of pushin down on the switch he pulled up and kept opening my trunk. like a dummy i tried to close each time he was pulling up on the switch, now my trunk will not open unless i use the key. nothing looks broken or out of place, but then again i have no idea how the lock works.

There are three screws that connect the latch that hits the little black rubber coated switch to release the trunk. The three screws are on the inside of your trunk. The switch is on the trunk lid. the two connect together when the trunk is closed. the three screws just need to be adjusted.

1)loosen the screws
2)pivet the latch until you find the proper alignment
3)tighten them again

The little black switch and the lever should line up and your trunk will pop open once again.
Unless he broke your cable, and in that case your screwed.

You might want to check the easiest thing to make sure it's not the cause of your problems before loosening anything:

There's a little lever on the inside of the lock mechanism that goes up & down. I forget which position it's currently in, but when flicked, it causes the trunk to be unable to open outside of using the key. My guess is it's to prevent anyone from accessing the trunk contents without the key (thieves, etc). The switch might have accidentally been flipped during your little "trunk war"

Actually that lever works the opposite. It prevents the switch in the door from opening the trunk, just like his problem. When new, the car came with a valet key. This key would open the doors and start the car, but would not open the glove box or trunk. By switching the lever in the trunk, it also could not be opened by the door switch.
