Koni's or tokico's?
Koni's or tokico's?
I am in need of shocks. I just wanted to know what opinions you guys have on the Koni specials and the tokico blue's. For the longest time I have been thinking I would just buy the blue's but I wanted to know if the Koni's are stiffer, and if it is worth the extra money. Any advice would help. Thanks so much.

i have toks. they're ok. in general, all of these shocks, regardless of brand, are going to be compromised with lowering, ie, they will not last as long as they would set up standard. so keep your receipts for the lifetime replacement, don't tell the guy back at the store you lowered them. the blues feel similar to stock with ST springs. spring rates will have an effect on ride feel, not just shocks.
you've been here for over a year and you still have to ask that question?? not meaning to bash/flame you or anything, but if you have to ask, you haven definitely NOT being paying attention to suspension threads that pop up pretty much every week.
In anycase, I'll grace your question with a reply.
What exactly are you looking for? Reknowned excellent performance with versatility, or something that's marginally better than stock to "get-by" with? If it's the former, Konis @ $450 - $550; if the latter, tokicos at whatever you can find them for.

Yes I know I have been here a year but only recently I am considering acutally upgrading my suspension. I am not made of money like most people so I have been just restoring my car to what it was like when it was new. So far I have just a basic CAI, but now that I do not have to worry about money as much I can just do what ever I want to the max and drive my van as a daily driver. Although of course if I could search I would not have to ask. I also do not visit the site very often so I probably have missed some good suspension threads. One more thing from the threads that I have seen I notice people only asking about Tokico vs. KYB . But thank you for your quick response. I think I will just go with Koni's

I tried telling a few of the moderators that they should have just stuck my KYB vs. Tokico thread up as a sticky. Everyone gave all sorts of opinions for all three of the manufacturers. KYB, Tokico, and Koni. But oh well, I guess it's just a curse we'll have to deal with.
Koni's are the best assuming you have the money for them as they aren't cheap.
anything lower than those, and everybody has different opinions.
BTW there is more to installing Konis than regular ones

ah come on guys, I just bought Tokicos after hearing from people of the forum that Tokicos were the best choice because 1) KYB's suck and are just like stock, and 2) the Konis available for 3rd gens aren't the sport kind, so they are just slightly better than stock.
And know everybody's saying that Tokico's suck, lol

Who said that?? I'd like to have a conversation with that person.

Okay. Good thing the yellows aren't available for our car
Keep thinking the Koni reds aren't "sporty". Even though I've run 2 sets of Tokicos before and now have Konis. All I can say is

From Tirerack's website: "KONI Special shock absorbers (painted red) were developed for drivers who want to improve their vehicle in general by providing better comfort and handling."

after i put the motor back in i had the same ST springs and a set of tokicos, drove the car for 4700 miles. took them out and the fronts were totally shot, one of the rears was almost completely dead, and the other rear was totally blown.
my current setup is koni reds and eibachs, and anybody who tells you koni<tokico is lying or ignorant. i havent driven on the new setup yet but just by adjusting the struts, they are 10x better.
