new leather seats....made by you.
Hello everybody,
my seats are history and I hate them. I've seen so many times on the TV workers at the Bentley factory fabricating the leather seats for various cars and it doesn't seem too hard. I want to dress my seats with brand new leather but want to do it myself. So, is there a write up about that process or has anyone done it?Any tips or problems i might have?Thank you all in advance!!!

Good luck my brother. Even if you were a skilled semstress, I'd be difficult to redo your seats the first time.
Mr. Gone has some Katskins in black leather. They might be just the fronts though. Would be much cheaper to buy from him than the aggravation of doing it 3-4 times yourself or paying the $500 for new ones.

trust us.. unless you're GOOD at upholstery, you don't want to mess with the leather for a first project. BTW, enough hides to do the seats will cost you $3-400 for just the leather, plus the rest of the materials, plus the labor. it's cheaper in the long run if you just buy some Katskins and install it yourself.

Buy some vinyl (fake leather) and give that a try first if you really want to do them in leather eventually
Take your old seat covers off, disassemble them, cut out sheets of the vinyl (or leather) that exactly match each section of the stock ones, then sew the new pieces back together just like the old ones
Not really much more to it than that. Of course it's easier said than done. Having a big nice powerful sewing machine would also be beneficial...
A few years ago my brother and I re-did the seats one of his cars in vinyl, and they came out exceptionally good. The hardest part is getting all the pieces exactly the same size as the stock ones, cuz otherwise they'll be either too tight or too loose and can make the finished product look incredibly crappy

I love my leather.
If you are interested in this, maybe call around to some automotive interior/upholstery shops and start asking questions about it. All of those places refinish interiors. Leather is not cheap, though.

The only reason the workers at Bently make it look so easy on a TV show is because they have years of training and aprenticeship under their belt and that's all they do 40 hours a week, every week. In principle it's not difficult, but in practice, it's the years of subtle knowledge that you (and I) lack that could adversely affect the look of the final product - and the look is the most important thing after all.
I would also suggest you either 1) do lots of research and ask those in the industry for tips and price out your supplies, then start with something simple first and work your way up......, or 2) just have a pro do it......, or 3) buy a ready-made kit and install it yourself.

I'll sell mine cheaper, but there is competition between a few members
I'm pretty sure I'll be selling my stock dealer leather though, not the katzkins, as I need to copy Michaels car in every aspect heheheeh
