Program door locks ?

I just got a 1990 Maxima with 76k miles on it . It's in great shape but I don't have an owner's manual. I'm not sure how the push button door locks should act. I know the code. When I punch in the code, the doors lock. But shouldn't I be able to unlock the doors with the same code???? Also I'd like to change the code if possible. Any experts out there that can help !! ?
before you can unlock it, you need to know the code. chances are since you did buy it from another owner, you don't know his or her code. so you need to erase their code by activating the master code, then you can put in your own code.
i dont want to take any credit for anything i didnt make but this info was copy and pasted from kaleb's 3rd gen site (kaleb, i hope you don't mind but this guy needed help)
Ok first get a flashlight and, if your back is stiff, someone more flexible. Open the front passenger door and slide the seat back. Get on your back and with the flash light, look up under the dash, toward your left (this would be on the door's side of the dash). You should see a brass colored box with a wire harness and wires attached to it. You might see a label that says "Digital Touch Entry Control Unit" or something like that. You should also see two or three lines of code on the label. One of the lines should begin with the letter "S". Record the last 7 NUMBERS on that line, that's the master key number (well it should be).
Now, wiggle out of the car and shut the door. Press the button labeled "C"/"ST", where "C" is on the top and "ST" is on the bottom. Now enter the seven digit master key and you should hear a constant tone sound, during this period, enter a 5 to 7 digit entry key, this cannot match the master key. There also cannot be three digits in a row that use the same button, I.E. 909xxx or something like that. After you've entered the code, wait for the tone to stop, press "LCK"/"9|0" to lock the doors (HAVE A KEY READY JUST IN CASE YOUR CODE DOESN'T WORK STUPID!). Now press "C"/"ST" and enter your new code, the doors should unlock, if the doors do not unlock, press the "WDW"/"5|6" key and see if your front windows roll down. If they don't, the code operation didn't work, give me an email or something. If it did, then your door lock timer is fried and you need a new one. You might want to email me on that one too!

wow, since you seem so knowledgeable on the subect, maybe you can answer this for me. would it be possible to integrate those keypads into my SE? i really like being able to open the door with the keypad. my old van had that and i loved it. any thoughts, ideas?

anyway, it would not be worth it compared to just buying a remote keyless entry and installing it/having it installed
to do the keypad thing, you would need a lot of extra pieces and lots of extra wiring (a lot more than compared to putting in an aftermarket one)

Thanks for the reply. I was able to find the master code. It sure doesn't jump out at you! Now I can open my trunk, lower the windows and of course unlock the doors. Thanks again to you and Kaleb.

yea, there is NO point to putting the keypad on your door if you dont have it. i have it and i still DONT use it. i got remote keyless which is 1435432532 times more useful. pushing buttons is tedious, hehe. one button is quicker from far away too, makes it much nicer. and its probably cheaper too.

The main advantage is being able to unlock the car when my wife has lost all of her keys ....

Door lock trick works great.
Hey that trick with the door lock worked. Your message didn't sound 100% but I tried it and I got it to work. Just wanted to say thank you. I bought my Maxima about 9 mons ago and have been working on little things 1 by 1 and its slowly getting there. The latest thing was the body and paint job. Its looking very nice now. I'll have to put a picture up when I get one.
Again, Thanks, Jmac

Thanks to you to Kaleb on the Door locks. Hey, I was reading the profile on your Maxima. Sounds like you done a lot to it. I saw somewhere where a couple of people had their ECU reprogrammed to get their engines to run little higher performing than orginal specs. Theres a company out my way, JW Wolf technologies that reprograms ECU's. One of the employees says between the reprogramming and the new high flow air filters they put in you can leave there after the work with a 15 to 20 horse power increase.
Have you had this done to your car? If so did you experience that big of a gain? Just wondering cause it costs $595.00 for the work and I don't know if its really worth it or not.
Thanks for any feedback.
