My day at the junkyard...

I went to the junk yard to look for some parts for the 280zx and ended up with more parts for the maxima than for the ZX...

-I found a set of black leather seats from a 91 SE that were in perfect condition and for $10 a seat I couldn't pass em' up.... 2 perfect door pannels for $5 each... some plastic bits that I couldn't find anywhere else... and a set of black Maxima floormats for $4!!! I might go back for the headliner since mine is stained and I can't seem to get it clean...

The next question is should I put these seats in my Maxima(cloth seats) or sell them? I'm not a huge fan of leather but my 1992 has leather and it's alright...

I saw a 3rd gen with a ragtop in the junkyard, it was a 90/91 SE I believe... and I passed on a set of 16in 300zx rims that look like the stock SE rims... But I'm thinking they might make nice winter rims... how does $26 bucks a rim sound? ... It seemed a little high to me...

wow, but with the deal you seem to get on everything else, they need to charge high for somethings....

I only wish my junkyard charged like that...

yeah its a "you pull it" yard in Marcy, NY... Vince's "u-pull-it" Salvage... the prices are great... a month ago my brother and I picked up a bumper support for his sentra ($10), a hood($29), fender($29) and hatch($45) for his 280ZX... Alot of the cars there are 8yrs+ old and pretty well wrecked or picked over (well at least the ones I cared about) in the import section... tons of domestic cars though... As for the maxima selection.. unless he gets more... he has like 8 GXEs and a few SEs(all vgs)... most are picked over but there are still a bunch of good body pieces and engines to be had..

OH...and I finally got to see that cylinder all you VG guys ask about in the trunk

I'm also looking for seats on my '93 maxima.... the leather's all torn up by the rear headrest (due to all the sun drying up the leather), and the butt part on the two front seats are cracking up.. Is buying leather cover replacements difficult, since u have to sew them back on the seats, or just trying to salvage some seats from a wrecked maxima better?

buying leather cover is not difficult...just bring out the $.

install is a PITA...but not impossible.

cheapest thing to do is get some from the junk yards.

I thought I was getting a great deal on a pair of hood shocks...until I got them home and found out they were worse than the ones on my car.

(They held the hood at the salvage yard up great, I just didn't think about the hood being smashed back and that it would push the weight back toward the shock mounts.)

what danny said, pull it yards are not a NY thing(except upstate i guess), i go to harry's u pull it in allentown pa, 3 hrs from my old house in queens, itll be 4 hrs from where i am now. $50 for brand new hood cartridges, or 60 bucks after a day of driving, gas tolls and paying 10 bucks for used cartidges, you choose

Where can you get new hood cartridges for $50? That's not the dealer price - which was $90 ea last time I priced them!
