They don't work in Texas. On Texas models they were just put on there for looks.

my defroster is kind of messed up. Some of the lines are out of order, so it kind of does a half-a$$ job on the back window. Luckily, my car is garaged so I rarely need it. The heated mirrors work good, though.

I think the trick to rear window defrosters is patience.

Sorry, couldn't help it. I thought it was strange that you need a defroster now in Texas. I have nothing against Texas---was just in Austin for three days and it was great.

I usually just start up my car in the morning, and flick on the defroster. Then I take 15 seconds to water-blade the windows to help it along.

Now if you're talking snow, can't help you. I don't know what that is.

No worries... I'm from Colorado originally, so I know what you mean. Moved down here and all I do is sweat for 90% of the year...it sucks. But, in terms of the rear defrost, we get some hellacious ice down here, so it IS useful sometimes..

Is there anything you can do short of replacing the rear glass? I live where there's a lot of snow and only two of the lines still work. I can visibly see where parts of the lines have flaked off.

They sell kits to fix the defroster. basically you have to draw new lines. very easy to do just it wont match exactly. The color will be a little bit different. But if it is only small breaks and you do it carefully it should look ok. Plus your def will work.

you can actually buy complete new grids to go on the window (or at least you used to be able to.
if all else fails buy a little blower type defroster

Ok thanks guys. I guess I'll have to get used to not seeing out my back window. In Plano, Texas I need a defroster because I park outside and so theres always dew on my car and its hard to get off sometimes I even use a towel and it still comes back. In Texas we get all kinds of weather. Heatwave, sleet, hail, snow, windy, foggy, etc My side mirror heaters work great though.
