Anyone ever changed their own front axles? The mechanic said that mine are starting to pop and that both CV joint boots were gone. The charge for them to replace is $179.00 each. Is this a good price or should I do it myself. I'm pretty good mechanicaly(changed my own exhaust manifold studs).

Suggestions???

You can do it yourself. Check the stickies for info. $179 is alot for just the axle. Not alot if it includes labor.

 

There are instructions in here http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=128490 that spells out the removal/replacement of the axles. Also in the stickies, it shows how to just replace the axles (not replace the boots). Please read all the articles for additional information
