what kind of transmission would fit in my 1991 maxima gxe? i'm looking for a manual, but does the tranny need to be from a maxima?

 

Possibly a 90-92 stanza trans will work.

 

89-91 5-speed will go in. 92-94 5-speed will need the axles and hubs to go along with it.

i'm trying to find other trannies to swap in because even the 5-speed aren't as strong as they should be. ****ing borg warner

 

thanks guys...I have an automatic (obviously) with +/- 170,000 and just did a rebuild on it. I am still experiencing the same problems i did with it before i did the rebuild. Some of these problems are skipping between gears, where it will shift from 1st into neutral and at that point i let go of the gas so i don't blow the engine and wait for the tranny to behave. Another one is that sometimes when i stop at a light, then take my foot off the brake when its time to move, the car wont go! i give it a lil gas and it still doesnt go. After doing this in like 10-20sec after, it sounds like the gears change (VERY LOUD) and the car jerks and takes off....very bad. So i'm looking for a 5sp tranny right now not only cause of this, but its just a good time to do the swap.

 

YOU did the rebuild or a shop did it?

bring it back if a shop did it.

 

yeah i'm definitely gonna bring it back to the shop, i got a 1 yr warranty. but i still eventually wanna swap it out.

 

Can you tell me a little more about borg warner? I looked on google but i don't know what u mean by that....

yeah man, i think one of nissan's biggest problems when it comes to reliability is its tranny's. I mean, i know most of us don't treat them they way they should be, but.....still..... LOL
