I have a 92 GXE that the power door locks don't work on any longer. I bought the car 4 years ago and the locks worked fine for the first year. After that they worked during the winter time and during cold snaps. When the weather warmed up the locks quit working. The keyless entry works for the windows and trunk but not for the locks. The power door lock switch on the driver's door doesn't work either. When I press the lock/unlock button I can hear what I think is the solenoid under the dash clicking. Anyone have a clue on what I could do myself to troubleshoot the problem? I am in the military and I live in southern Italy, so the Nissan dealership is definitely out of the question!

Did you check the fuse? There may actually be a bad (but not blown) fuse that loses contact when the weather gets cooler (metal contracting). I'd try just changing it to see.

If not that, I'd to straight to the lock timer module under the dash. Remove the panel under the drivers side. The lock module is to the right of the steering wheel column.

tick tock...

i heard the lock timer module is a pretty common problem, my power locks havent worked in while, but they will all of a sudden start working for like a day or so, and then quit again. do you think replacing that module will fix the problem, i dont have any bad fuses, can you tell if the module is bad by just looking at it? cost?

See Link for FAQ on this. http://www.kalebonline.com/maxima/default.asp

Not sure if the $60 price is still valid through Courtesy. My local dealer wanted about $80.

I believe it's brown.. been a while since I repaired mine. but it says something like "door lock timer" right on the front of it. you'll know if it's the right one.

Yes, you can try resoldering the connections. worked perfectly for me.

If that doesn't work, you can buy mine from me. it works perfectly.

Yup, mine's also marked "Timer Module" or "Lock Timer Module" or something like that. Once you stick your head down there with a worklight/flashlight, you'll find it easily.

And, yes I would try the solder job first too. Nothing to lose. I thought my lock problem was this module but it turned out to be a stuck lock actuator inside one door.

Good Luck. I'd take Matt up on his offer too!

Stuck Lock Actuator?

For about a year now, I noticed that my front passenger door would not unlock all the way (the lock tab on the door sometimes does not come all the way up). It's really annoying when somebody is trying to get in on the passenger side.

Anyway, I can't seem to figure out the problem and wondering if anybody else had the same problem.

If I work the power locks a few times, it works, fine, but I would like this to work the first time, otherwise my passenger thinks I'm playing games with him or her. It seems like when it's "cold" (not necesssarily like 20 F or something, but cold meaning I haven't used the power lock in hours). That's when the problem is.

Thanks for the help EVERYONE

I did some looking today and checked all of the fuses again and swapped them with new fuses. The locks still didn't work so I pulled the Door Lock Timer and messed with it for a while. After pressing around on it the locks started to work again and then would stop. I tried soldering it but with no luck. I also tried using a piece of small styro foam and electrical tape to keep enough pressure on it but after re-installing it they were TU (..) again!

Thanks to all of you who offered advice; I appreciate it greatly! I look forward to chatting in the future.
