where could it possibly be??????

coming from??? yesterday morning i got in the car and noticed that the floor was wet. i know that my sunroof leaks when it rains extremely hard but it wasnt hard rain the night before. i looked and felt on the headliner where it normally leaks and no traces of moisture was there and the seats weren't wet. so the next thought i had was heater core. but there is no coolant, its pure water and the drivers side is wet also. and its also wet in the back passenegers foot area. all windows and sunroof were closed. where else could water come in. also i thought maybe windshield seal, but on the decline from the firewall its not wet at all just at the bottom please help

if you didnt leave the door ajar, check the weatherstripping around the door windows.

your cowl may be plugged with who knows what, keeping water from draining properly. open your doors and see if there are leaves, mud, whatever behind front fender at the rear. i've had that problem on other cars, not sure if it's what your facing. the moisture in the rear is probably the same puddle, just grown.

is the cowl where the door hinges meet the frame. i really need it to rain again so i can see where its coming from because now the car is starting to stink to the point of not wanting any passengers for a while.

The cowl is located where your windshield wipers connect. mattcomet is referring to the drain holes located by the door hinges. the plastic grates by your wipers drain down to them holes. If their plugged it might cause water to overflow into the passeger compartment.

Try using the garden hose on the cowl vents to test if are draining ok.

Was your car broken into? Maybe someone's pulling a prank on you and put water in there to trip you out. Just a though. Or possibly someone spilt something.

also check the windshield trim, mine leaks a little. then check the door trim, check for cracks.

It's not pretty, but check out these pics on my site - this is the cowl drain area people are talking about, and this is what happens when it rusts-out.

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/376954/3

Another possibility is a hole in the floor (also seen on my site...) or a rusted-out driver-side, rear seat-belt mount, or rear wheel-well. My bet is that your driver AND passenger side rear wheel-wells are rusted through on the upper/front part which allows water to enter directly into the cabin. The water is deflected by the rear seat-back and runs down onto the floor - all the way to the front. The carpet under-padding holds the moisture and starts to grow mold (that's the smell you're getting).
To check where water might be coming in while the car is stationary (water only comes in through the rear wheel-wells when car is moving) take it and a friend to a car wash, then have your friend spray it while you look around at all the possible places for leaks.
I would suggest you take the rear seat out and remove your front door sills and kick-panels before going to the car wash tho - that will allow you to easily check for & see a rear leak, and also allow you to move the carpet out of the way at the front to more easily see a leak at the front.

Good luck...

well impretty sure it isnt the wheel wells, because the floor was not wet the whole night of driving. then the next morning it was like bam. when my sunroof drip it drip unto the seat and it was not wet at all.how can a hole in the floor allow water to defy gravity while the car is still. I asked people other people if their cars were wet like maybe the street flooded but all of them were dry. i checked the cowl and it was free of debris. the only possibility i can think of is maybe leaky windshield, but how can it be wet on the drivers side, passenger and the back seat area. also whats a good way to get rid of the smell. i tried airing it out, but didnt help too much

There is some stuff called febreze. It comes in a spray bottle. I've used it before, it works pretty good. There is no substitute for dry carpet though.
