I broke my car again

Somehow my left front spring broke today. I was driving on level but slightly rough ground at about 30mph, which is the weird part. My shocks are uberdead, which I guess put enough extra stress on the springs over time.

So what are the cheapest springs and shocks worth getting? I was thinking about lowering it about 1.5 inches anyways before this happened.

Suspension Techniques are $140 for a set and lower the car 1.5". Some people here don't like them but when I had them on my old maxima, they performed fine for me. B&Gs are progressive and lower 1.6", but are ~$175.

BTW, got pics of the busted spring??

I'll take a pic tomorrow. It's pretty fubar. Happened about a quarter mile from home. Heard a loud bang and felt a thunk. Right front corner dropped an inch or two and kept making thunk/grinding sound when I turned or went over a bump. Jacked it up at home and "Holy **** my spring broke".

I'll probably go with KYB GR2 struts.

No, it looked fine except for the fact that it's broken.

Man, a spring breaking?! Wonder if this is another reason for those of us on stock suspension after all these years to finally change it out?

I've got 25 year old springs on my other car, they haven't broken yet.

Well I took another look at it this morning, and it looks like it was rather scraped up and worn down with slight surface rust where it broke.

I'll upload pics as soon as I can find the right driver for this camera.

ya......

I was there when it happened in the front passenger seat. There was a couple of really loud thuds and then the car dropped a small put noticable amount. I thought blew a tire earlier in the day driving around. But I think that just was when it originally happened. Because we were really close to home when we thought we blew a tire, then an hour or two later when we decide to go somewhere again it was making the same noise on every little piece of uneven concrete. So ya, wasn't quite expecting the spring to be broken.

First time I've ever seen that happen to a spring that wasn't messed with (cut coils, heated coils, etc).

I'll try to take a better pic of the spot where it broke, but my camera sucks.

I'm probably going to go with KYB-GR2 struts and Eibach springs. I've been wanting to do so for a while now, but that got put on hold when the exhaust system fell off.

go with the eibachs and konis if u can afford it....I know shox.com has a special package deal. I did about 2 months ago after months of looking around and asking opinions. Eibachs are 1.25 drop not 1.5 like u want as stated before but its enough to fill that huge gap in the front end.

Update: Just ordered a set of Eibach springs and KYB-GR2 struts. Total including shipping was a bit under 450$.

Should be an improvement over floppy stock springs and 15 year old shocks.

I guess if you ride on very worn out shocks, it will cycle the springs enough times to break it. Especially when it looks like the rust introduced a stress riser. Bend a piece of wire enough times and it will break.
