Is 13.27 MPG normal??

Hi, I drive my car in the city, but I noticed that the car is cosuming more gas than before, so I did some calculations:

Tank Full: Trip = 451.5
Half Tank: Trip = 574.3
The gas tank has about 18 1/2 gal so:

(574.3 - 451.5)mi/9.25 gal = 13.27 MPG

I heard that normally this car MPG is about 17 - 18, so I'm asking you what can be the problem with this?? Thanks.

No 13 mpg is not normal, and means something is wrong. But you should calculate your mpg using a different method. Sometimes the fuel gauge is not 100% accurate; meaning that you have more than 9 gallons when the needle is at half.
Fill up the tank all the way, and reset the trip meter. Next time you're at the gas station fill it up all the way, and divide the miles on your trip meter by the number of gallons it took you to fill the tank.
That's the best way to calculate mpg

also keep in mind how you drive. on the highway I get over 30mpg. at the track, I get 8 mpg.

Fill your car up...reset trip...and drive untill you are at 1/4 a tank.....then go fill up...divide your trip miles by how much gas you had to put back in for it to be full.....and your mpg should be alot more accurate......dont go by how much the tank holds.....my car died from "no gas" and I was lucky and it happened right next to a gas station....my max only took 16.75 gallons...so their should of been almost 2 gallons still left in there....and btw I only got 15-17mpg in city...you probably get the same, I think your calculation is based on numbers that aren't accurate giving you your "bad mpg"

I have to laugh all the time I read these posts here about mileage. It doesn't really matter how many miles you get to the half tank...the MPG as figured with this method is the ONLY meaningful way to discuss fuel economy IMO.

I also have to wonder at these modded cars out here getting 13-14 mpg. I think I'll keep mine stock, thank you...26-30 mpg highway, 16-20 mpg city, depending on conditions.

25-26mpg average for every tank so far by 1/4tank left, the pump usually says I filled up about 11.9-12.1 gallons@310-315miles

my max is turbocharged and i still get 28.5 mpg on the highway... and that's not even to its full potential yet. that also includes boosting quite a bit while on the highway.

Whew.. those first few posts scared me.
I'm selling my Jeep Wrangler and hopefully getting a maxima (tonight)...and I wanted to get more than the 18-20 mpg that my Jeep gets. Looks like I should be OK with that.

I've re-read this thread and not sure what or whose problem you are referring to. Can you please clarify?

Oh, and to all who've responded...I've apparently touched a nerve here with my previous comment about mods affecting fuel economy. Apparently not all mods will reduce fuel economy. I retract my statement...

Try tune-up. I got about 26 mpg today on the highway driving around 85-90mph constant nonstop. Not bad for a engine with 236k on it. I still have a little over half a tank. This car fails to amaze me.

Have you checked your oil. Being low on oil can cause terrible gas milage.

bad gas mileage:

heavy foot
bad o2 sensor
exhaust manifold leaks
intake manifold leaks
clogged air filter
improperly working injectors (making car run rich perhaps)
maf trouble

those are some i can think of off the top of my head.

also improperly inflated tires can hurt milage by a few percentage - check them in the morning before you drive for an accurate measurement of how many lbs of air you need to add in
