Sweet sounding advice.

Ok. Finally getting around to replacing the junk Bose system(single DIN) in my 93SE. I am dying for some tunes. I want them to sound good. Alipne CDA-9827, 6.5" components up front, 6x9" coax in the rear. Can I get some suggestions on where to buy. I don't want Crutchfield. Too expensive. I found everything with reputable sellers on ebay, but I have to pay seperate shipping for each one. Where to go? Budget under $500. Amps and sub later. Any advice would be good... as long as it's intelligent. That's the only stipulation. Let me have it.

same prob

i have a 93 max too with the bose, and NO RADIIO ANTENNA (previous owner thought it was a good idea to go through car wash with it extended...) so i am also tired of listenint to the engine when ever i drive

a good place is www.onlinecarstereo.com

i have a calrion HU that im going to put in, take out the bose speakers(because they are 2 OHM) and put in some nice 6x9"s. im going to just run 8 gauge from the HU straight to the speakers. so im leaving the amps there, just bypassing them. cuase if i take em out ill lose them!

and im goign to try that set up with just rear 6x9". just leaving the stock front Bose speakers there not doing anything (again if i take them out, ill lose them hah)

if anyone else has done or seem something similar give us a shout

To get the best out of your system get an amp. HU amps will be distorted at higher volumes. I got a JVC HU and it does 50x4 max. I suggest getting an amp along with your speakers. You'll never be happier. Trust me.

Yes, yes. An amp. Two amps are coming with a sub. Basics first. Any advice on where to get good 6.5" components and rr speakers? Inexpensive. Any opinions based on experience?

i wouldn't spend TOO much on rear fill, front speakers are more important. that'll save ya a few bucks

I just finished mine

Eclipse 5423 HU
Infinity Reference 6.5" coax
Infinity Reference 6x9" coax

I have a friend who has a dealer account through Infinity. I bought my 6x9's a long time ago (they were in my black 93) for $120ish IIRC. I got my 6.5" coax's for about $40. I'm happy with my setup

If you buy any kind of component speakers, you will be much better served buying a quality amp to run them. When you do this, you are going to have to consider amp placement and wiring. The stock wiring is thin an fairly crappy. Most HUs don't put out enough RMS power to run decent components.

I have 6.5 Diamond Audios in the doors and a Phoenix Gold amp running them. The amp is mounted in the trunk, so I have Phoenix Gold 12 ga wiring running from the trunk to the door speakers. I also have Rockford Fosgate high end RCA cables running from the HU to the trunk. The wire really isn't that expensive, you just need to take some time and do the wiring. You can shop around. I read where Radio Shack has Monster Cable now and the price might be more reasonable than at an audio store.

Fosgate Fan is also correct about the rear fill. You should buy the best front speakers you can and some serviceable rear fill 6x9s. I have some Infinity Reference 6x9s I bought off ebay for $20 and they work just fine. In fact, if you are on a budget, just buy the fronts first and get rear speakers later. I had mine with fronts and a sub and it sounded very good. I added the 6x9s later when I found a good deal on them.

Everyone is going to have their favorite speaker brands, but for a reasonable amount of money on the front speakers, I would stick with Infinity, Eclipse, maybe Alpine Type Rs. These aren't the "best" you can buy, but they sound good, are readily avaible and can be had relatively cheap.

Thanks for the advice.

One more quicky. Would it be best to shell out for a 4 channel amp for front and rear, or save with the 2 channel, fill the front, power the rear w/ HU, and add the sub and amp? I use to like everything to be balanced, but am now learning from this(and caraudioforum) that front needs amp/rear doesn't. Would you say this is an accurate statement? I'm going in circles here.

a good system doesn't even need rear speakers.

I'm running a pair of Focal 12s in the back, and some Focal 6.5"/1" components up front. power the bejeezus out of them and I don't have any rear speakers at all. I actually sealed off the entire rear deck.

I have the front running off my amp and the rear fill running on deck power. Matt really is right. I didn't need the 6x9s, I just put some in there because it was easy to do and cheap. My rear speakers are running off of the HU.

I would recommend a good two channel amp to run the front and a monoblock or bridged two channel for a sub or subs. They have amps now designed just for your specific usage.
