valve cover gaskets

i seriously need some help or advice guys....i'm trying to change the gaskets on my car and i went to advance auto parts and bought what i thought were the right gaskets....i take off the front valve cover (closest to front of the car) and by no means will the gasket i purchased fit or replace the gasket in there now!!! i took the gasket back and them search again...to no success was there a gasket that looked like the one originally on the car....went to autozone and the same results. Is this gasket something u have to get from the dealership or is there another part number i can find it under???

NAPA's online parts finder seems to have valve cover gaskets specific for the VE. Go to a NAPA store and make sure you tell them it is for the DOHC engine. Otherwise, I say get them from the dealer.

I never get the right parts for the VE engines at the parts stores...and I tell them its a VE engine, not the VG...and still get wrong parts

because the VE is such a limited engine, the stupid catalog makers lump it in with the VG30DE and obviously the Parts are different.
Fel pro is the worst offender, they list the VE at the top of the heading, but not a single gasket is actually listed for the VE.

If you take it off carfully the gasket prob wont break and then you can reuse it

I had the same problem with NAPA. The guy swears it was for a VE and I was like "no way, look at the cutouts for the spark plug holes!" I had to get my money back.

tell them to look it up in a paper catalog, of course they'll probably give you a look like "what the heck are you talking about".

we ended up finding a set in Fel Pro a couple years ago working on LordRandall's car... was a PITA and the parts store argued with us for an hour over it being the correct gasket because "it said VG30DE DOHC and the SOHC for the Maxima is the VG30E... so it *must* be the right one"

we all know the truth to that, but the guys in the parts store don't know that. oh well. good thing NAPA has them. I'll look there.

Do the NAPA ones have all the new little washers and bushings with it? the Fel Pro ones usually have them for the SR20 and stuff, but I haven't seen any other aftermarket gasket sets that include them.

you could not have found a Fel-Pro set for the VE, they don't show one in the '04 catalog. they do however list the VG30DE under the VE30DE

Have you tried just tightening them down a little first?

This is not a fix, but sometimes it can stop the leak for a while.
