fixed gas smell in car, but now a new problem starting. i love problems

To begin with, i tried my hardest to find where this gas smell was coming from, i thought maybe it had to do with my exhaust manifold leak, but to no avail. then i found a small gas leak on a rubber hose under the intake manifold. i got in there with this special screwdriver and tighted the clamp up. 2 days later, im high off gas fumes. SO i finally realize it is the rubber hose that is cracked.

so here is my problem, after getting the hoses under the intake replaced i was driving away and the lights sorta flickered on and off, but the car never died (only time it happened). Then i drove down the street and everything was ok. But then i went to start it later that night and it seemed to take a while to turn over. didnt think it was going to but it did. Ive never had it take more than a second to start, it always just starts right up. but since they had to take off the intake manifold, i was wondering if they maybe tinkered with something. after i have started the car up cold i can hear like a whinnin noise from the back, is that the fuel pump or something, sound goes away after a minute or two.

does anyone think that there might be a short somewhere with the flickering of lights? and with the car not starting up right away, could that be the fuel pump? does it whine when it needs replaced? or is that a sign its ok? any help would be great.

ps, im about to install e36s this coming weekend. does anyone recommend a certain bulb brand for 9005 and 9006 lights? sylvania is good i hear, but what about the other brands, what is everyone else using? i was thinking of getting those bright whites that are 'hid'-eske or whatever. ok thanks.

You might have a vacuum leak. Check around the area you worked on for broken, missing, left off vacuum hoses. You may have pinched a wire or something.
