Brake & Battery Lights Both ON + Rough Idle
This problem is not on my 94SE but is on my dads 92 SE 5spd.
The car hasn't been drove in a few months and really hasn't been drove daily for almost a year. Well he went to drive it yesterday and both the battery and brake lights on the dash are on. Also the car has a very low/rough idle around 500 rpm.
My dad said that he swapped batteries with a extra he had and the problem continued. He aslo said he checked voltage coming off the alternator and it was OK. (I can't verify any of the work performed or the exact symptoms of this problem, because this is just what I've been told and I haven't had a look at the car yet.)
I just thought I would post this and maybe get a heads up on the problem. I plan on taking a look at the car tomorrow or the next day.
Now I thought I remember reading something about this a year or two ago on the org forums, but couldn't remember for sure (Since I'm unable to search I couldn't find any old posts).
I thought when your alterantor was going bad sometimes the ABS and battery lights would come on, since the ABS control unit doesn't have enough power from the alternator, the ABS is the first thing sacraficed. But I could be mistaken on that. But this seems to be a little bit different since it's the battery and brake light coming on.
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

before u check the alternator check the fuse labeled "eng cond" this fuse supplies voltage for o2 sensor, vtc, aicv,etc... and when blown will cause brake and battery light to come on together. be careful though that fuse blown for a reason. so if it blows again right away u got a short somewhere.and if that checks ok then its prob ur altinator.
