oil types/filters

If your car doesn't use/burn any oil, I would switch to a full synthetic. I use Mobil 1 tri-synthetic 5w-30 in my 93GXE and have had no problems. If you're worried about switching to a synthetic because of high mileage, here's some food for thought. My roomate has a 91GXE and he switched to Mobil 1 tri-synthetic at 150K. His car now has 180K on it and it still runs like it was brand new....no smoking, no leaks! I also run either a Mobil 1 oil filter (preferred b/c it's designed for use with synthetic oils....small micron rating) or a Purolator PureONE. Again, these are just my preferences, but it seems that the consensus on the board is to get all synthetic fluids in your car (ATF and motor oil). I use Mobil 1, but i've heard only praise about Amsoil products also. You may want to search for recent posts on this subject b/c I recall reading one.

F.Y.I. - If you decide to switch to Mobil 1, go to your local Walmart soon b/c they have new 5 qt jugs of the tri-synthetic for $17.88 (it's a special now but I don't know if they'll always be that price). That's much cheaper than buying it by the qt ($4.~~/qt.).

Well... I know this totally goes against everyone else... but on mine I go the cheap route:

Pep Boyz brand 5w-30 oil ( < $1 a quart)
Pep Boyz brand oil filter (which is $1.99)

The filter is actually a purolator (regular one) only it costs less. If you don't believe me look at them next time you are there... IDENTICAL except for the writing on the side.

Also my max has 150k miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil either... To the best of my knowledge it has been on dino oil it's entire life.
