Be creative, use a 350Z muffler and mount it in the same fashion as the OEM Maxima muffler

I don't recommend Summit Racing Turbo Mufflers, it doesn't sound good.

wow thats a good idea, i love the sound of 350Z/G35/FX mufflers. But dont they have dual-exhausts....let us know how it goes (if you decide to go that route)

The muffler is mounted sideways on a 350Z with one exhaust inlet and outlet on one side of the muffler+another outlet on the otherside of the muffler which gives it that 'dual' exhaust effect. Its a similar design as Brand A or brand B muffler with a single inlet/dual outlet if mounted like most cars are, such as the OEM Maxima muffler.

omg.. that's probably as loud as that CRX's exhaust..(how about some sound clips..lol)

the muffler doesn't make any sounds, it "MUFFLES" sound coming from the engine (exhaust) I have a straight though muffler (off eBay), but the muffler section is BIG and thats the part that counts. the bigger that section is the more sound it will be muffled,
- if u plan on getting a muffler with chambers or a stock muffler, like a 350z your not going to get that "350z" sound. with just a simple muffler swap.
-whatever u do.. don't cut off your resonator, the resonator acts as a pre' muffler, and really helps keeping the "bee's away"
-my advice... keep your car running great and clean untill u can afford to spend some real money and get it done right...
not rice... just nice

That dual 4" actually looks pretty nice...I bet it doesn't sound that loud, as long as you have the cat on still. Antonthegrey had no muffler at all and it didn't seem like it was super duper loud. He drove it all the way from Seattle to Portland and I don't recall him complaining of headaches

I was going to get a custom exhaust made before I got my GReddy and they guy said that the reason most of those ricer mufflers sound like ass is because they don't use a resonator. I was going to use 2.5" crush bent, a resonator and a dymomax muffer and he said it wouldn't sound like "bees in a can."

your most likely not gonna get the Z/G/FX sound with just the muffler, its mainly dependent on the engine. You can sometimes hear a resemblance of that sound through maximas, muranos and all the other nissan/infiniti 3.5 vehicles with quieter mufflers. The Z/G/FX muffler is designed basically to magnify the 3.5 motor sound apparently

Magnify?.. wrong word, that means if u take the mufflers off it will be quieter. not going to happen.
-crush bent will make some noise.. maybe not beez in a can.. but, thoes Wrinkles will make alot of turbulance...
for a great sound, i would suggest: y-pipe, high flow cat, custom 2 inch b pipe with 2 resonators and a Straight through muffler.
if u wana try and recreate the 350z sound then maybe:just a Y-pipe and one of their mufflers... and a nice simple tip. the rest stock. maybe try and find a pic of the 350z exhaust...to get better ideas

- go to user profile and make a SIGNATURE, and insert a pic

i meant magnify over the quieter mufflers, ie a 3.5 G35 exhaust tone is obviously louder than a 3.5 murano

As far as greddy I haven't heard it on a maxima. I did hear the sound clips on their site.

If you're not wanting the patented Honda Ricer sound, here's 4 companies that don't sound like them.

Ravin, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, and Greddy

I have a Ravin on mine, and love the sound, has a nice deep rich tone. Also, the series I have the "drone" stops around 3000 RPM. Perfect when driving highways and interstates. No annoying drone while driving long trips.

ok... you'll love this: $17 @ fleet farm (yeah, I'm cheap...very cheap). I got one of the universals 2 1/4 single inlet / outlet and welded it in. It's nice and quiet and there is a noticeable throttle response improvement. Dyno'd ? no. But what the hell, my stock one was rusted out and sounding bad and this was very cheap and works.

Hmm, makes me wish I didn't give my Hayame Mufflers (about $180ea) from my Accord to my little brother, those sounded nice on the car. I'm scrapping my Summit Racing Turbo muffler and slapping on a Magnaflow muffler from a muffler shop (center inlet, dual outlet, IIRC 20" muffler I don't recall which model it is). Magnaflow seems to be a good and recommended muffler on here.

I was gonna put one of those on my car, actually I still might do it, but it kinda "sticks" out a bit. reygarcia has one on his car.

Most of the ones you're looking for are around $200. My Ravin cost me $185 just for the muffler.

Just about the only things you'll find for under $100 is Matrix, Ractive, and other knock offs that have the Honda bee can sound.

So this will come down to the point of are you willing to pony up the cash?

What would be a good price for a 350Z muffler. I know a guy that might be selling his in my area. Also, should I get the whole stock exhaust system from after the cat, or just the muffler?

You can probably say goodby to your spare tire well if you want to fit one of those. Or at least some of it.

You can mount a 350Z muffler in the same fashion as the OEM muffler. Will it be functional? Who knows, someone needs to try it.

I would get an entire catback if you have the money. Chances are, if its still the original piping, its about to rust through since the car is so old.

Here is a picture of what the 350Z muffler should be like internally

In its normal position, the lower left is the inlet while the two tips sticking out on the right side (both bottom and top) are the outlets. If you'd use a 350Z muffler mounted in the same way as pictured above it'll be as functional as taking off your muffler and slapping on a tailpipe (straight pipe). I don't think it'll be functional so scratch that idea.

HMMM, a cat-back is nothing but a waste of money. You can get a universal muffler, and have a shop redo the piping for HALF of what it'd cost to JUST BUY a cat-back.

Thats what I meant If you redo the pipe, that is considered a cat-back no
