In its normal position, the lower left is the inlet while the two tips sticking out on the right side (both bottom and top) are the outlets. If you'd use a 350Z muffler mounted in the same way as pictured above it'll be as functional as taking off your muffler and slapping on a tailpipe (straight pipe). I don't think it'll be functional so scratch that idea.
Scratch the whole 350Z muffler idea???

Well Next time be a little more specific... Custom or Aftermarket. You could have sent him out to buy a $450+ catback system

A straight pipe will be too loud, although since the sound will be incased within the muffler before coming out, it might be alittle quieter than a true straight pipe.

And yes, I should have been more specific on the catback.

i bet the diamiter of the stright part is really small so that would make back pressure to force air into the "muffler" part, the idea is worth more research before u should scrach it... good pic too!!

It is worth more research and as soon as I can get my hand on a 350Z muffler, I'll be the one to experiment.

Here is what I think though,
The diameter on the muffled pipe should also be the same diamter also so unless you can partially block the straight tube to equalize the flow, the exhaust gas will always choose the path with the lease resistance, therefore, most if not all, of it will flow out of the straight pipe. I could be wrong and the sound could be actually nice and mellow without drone (since the muffler itself will still have that sound deadening wool-like stuff) all the way up the tach scale.

OK, i have a g35 muffler comming in a couple weeks. I image I'll have to cut out the spot for the spare to make room for the muffler... WOOOHOOO MORE CUTTING!

You should try mounting it the same way as your OEM muffler (Single inlet, dual outlet) and see how it sounds likes vs. mounting it the same sideways fashion as the G35C

Try finding local shops. They're more willing to work with people than national chains.

thoes magnaflows look great, but but they still are straight-through, maybe adding a "magnapack" to act as a resonator along with a straight-through muffler, i bet that would sound super nice.
