burnt headlight harness!!!

i have some hyper white chinese bulbs that have burnt the harness before. i replaced them with some autozone harnesses. one burnt again last night so i replaced it again. on the bulb, it has 80/100 watts. is that the reason it keeps burning up. i found some apc superwhites for the car. ther bulb has 65/85. would those be safer for my car. i really dont even use high beam because i have really good fogs. please help.

"burnt the harness before"

Make your own wiring. Take finger thick wire from battery to headlights, install relays for each lamp [quite a job to tame that wire]. Now voltage at lamps does not drop anymore, you have bright lights with std bulbs. And. Wires will not melt anymore...

I think in the stickies Craig has a "how to" on rewiring your headlight harness.

truthfully its not that serious for me. i just want to know if those bulbs will be safer by being 65/85 instead of 80/100. will the 65 do the same thing or will it be ok. im not looking for the super duper hid look. i just want to avoid those yellow looking lights by all means necessary. the only reason i had those bulbs is because they were out my other car.

Those cheap eBay bulbs will do that to your wiring. Either upgrade your wiring or use some Silverstars.

I just recently got some Silverstars in my E36's and I must say I'm HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY disappointed. Good thing I got them half-price on Ebay, but still... I couldnt be less impressed. They're just barely brighter/whiter than my stock yellow halogen's

the key to good light output is not wattage.
it's the gas used in the bulb and quality of said gas.

well the bulbs are at circuit city for 10.99. they are the APC Superwhites with xenon gas. so will those do since their not china man made. i had silverstars before and they were not worth no 20 bucks a bulb.

If you already burned your harnesses, you are going to have to replace the wires. You might as well do as I suggested in my first post and rewire them with better wire. That way, when you drop in more crap from APC, it won't burn the harnesses again.

If you are going to stay with stock wattage and go with a "whiter" bulb, I recommend XD5 bulbs. I have them in my car and they are significantly better than stock (both in light output and "whiteness" and I have had them for over a year and not burned one out yet. I also have XD5 bulbs for my fogs, but I took them out for winter and put in some Hella yellow gold bulbs.

you touched the glass or the glass came in contact with something oily. the heat from the bulb cooked the oil on the glass and it blew up the glass.

cause - user/installation error (RTFM).
